    Story Here and Here .

The dialer scam netted €35 Million for the Spaniards, they get an indial of about €0.40 per minute.

€ircon on the other hand make about €2.00 a minute from the same scam , 5 times as much as the 'alleged' scammers . Its a good business to be in for Dave n Phil n the bhoys.

    Hi Muck,

where is the Eircom connection here, we know about the issues highlighted by Comreck but from the reports in your article it does not mention that the diallers were routing through Ireland ?

    Thanks

It matters not - It is likely that €ircon would have very little control over this as it would be in the hands of Telefonica or another local PTT and passed on via a local company. Obviously if the terminating number of the premium rate number called by the dialler was in Ireland, €ircon would probably make at some point but that's more to do with the originators using hosts in Ireland.

I'm the last to defend them, having had to deal with them profesionally, and up until recently privately, for years, but the premium rate number prefixes mentioned in the article can be bought by anyone, anywhere...

Do Eircon have dialler software hidden on their websites...they may be daft but they are not that stupid.

didn't they create a whole new zone just for Diego Garcia (home of the porn diallers) and then increase the price to call this zone, which in turn means that they make a fortune from the porn diallers that get installed on peoples machines. Other countries have measures in place to make sure people are not caught out. €ircon on the other hand make sure people are screwed left right and centre when it happens to their customers.

I can't understand Spanish but I didn't note any reference to Eircom or Ireland. from the above posts I assume that there is actually no connection whatsoever! With a thread header quoted above I hope the Eircom's legal department aren't surfing the net otherwise somebody is going to be at the end of a slander lawsuit!

They have measures to insure people don't caught but the call rates to these countries are probably the same as Eircom's/UTV/BT.

It would be interesting to know how these dialers installed themselves and dialed out. If it was a prompted download then it should be tough luck and pay the Telecom company. Furthermore, these guys must have the ownership or some revenue share agreement in place with the lines where the calls terminate.

What a load of b****ks. What does Eircom have to do with premium rate diallers in Spain in the context of "€ircons Spanish Operation shut down by Fraud Squad".

Jesus, talk about a tenuous link....

For someone who's worried about someone elses slander, you're very quick to suggest that UTV and BT have the same criminal pricing as eircom does for certain Pacific islands. 2 minutes research on the web would have revealed that eircom charge €3.60/minute at all times, EsatBT charge €1.79 during the day, and €1.70 evenings and weekends, and UTV charge €1.65 at all times.

Yes, Eircom charge €2 per minute more than other operators for these calls - that's on top of whatever profit is already included in the price that UTV and EsatBT charge! The scammer at the other end doesn't even make €2/minute on these calls!

Typical Eircom leg-humper, no grasp of satire.
