    Hello,
A ntl tec replaced our box the the other day because of skipping and weird sounds.
Well the new box just switches off (once of twice a day could be off for 10mins to an hour).when i plug it out and back in,where is says pace, might be a few green dots or Error 24,,after a while it will say pace,,screen blank.while typing this it has turned off and on 4 times.at the mo the screen is blank and the box has the channel number on it.
any ideas what error 24 is

Error 24 refers to a "Date/TimeStamp Download Timeout". Basically, it means that the box was waiting for the Date & Time details to download, but it didn't (for whatever reason). This generally only happens on Pace Di 4010 boxes, as they do not have battery backup real time clocks in them. It is not anything to worry about really and would not have any effect on the problems you describe.

Regarding the switching off - I have no idea what does this. My box does this at 5am and 6.12pm and 9.03 pm EVERY SHAGGING DAY. It really pisses me off. I rang ntl about it but they don't know what it is. It's really annoying because you're watching something and it just switches off and re-boots normally.:confused::(:(  :(

well the tec was out the other day,,he says our area has a bad signal,,and needs an amp,,(so why no amp?),,so he said the box he put in the 4010 n has a better signal pick up.
well it still switches off a few times a day (can be off from 10mins to 2hours).
also now the sound turns off, today about 10 times in an hour..
    fury.

    noooo.
i turned on the box in engineer mode just to have a look at the error list (i did not change anything).I did not see an exit button,so i pluged it out.
Now i have nothing, even the anlogue wont come in. cry :(

Well if there is no analogue signal, then there must be something SERIOUSLY wrong with your connections. Check everything is tightly secured. From the sound of it, your pace box is well gone.

You'll have to ring ntl. Hopefully they'll give you a silver box.

Perhaps Cableguy could shed some light on this?

it came back on by itself around 2 hours after it went off was working fine until last nght 10:00 lost digital signal, its now 16:46 and it still has not rebooted.i have the analogue signal.
the last tec told me the 4010 was better than the silver box.
i will give ntl a ring,,usually when the tec comes out everything works fine.

I'd just like to clarify something: when you say it comes back on 2 hours after it goes off, what do you mean? Does the decoder appear "dead" for 2 hours? Does it not reboot for 2 hours? Or, do you not have signal for 2 hours? It's just that it's a little unclear.

If you do not have a signal for 2 hours, then something is wrong with your locan network.

If the box does not come back on for 2 hours something is seriously wrong and you need to get your decoder checked immediately .

The decoder switches on,,but it will just say pace or just a few green leds will light up.
A tec is comming out on tuesday.
It just came back on i pluged it out and back in where is says pace it just had a few green leds lighting up,,so i gave it a whack (old black and white tv solution) and the green lights then said pace then ntl and it came back on..

well a tec came out last week,,he thought it might be my tv causing my problems so he replaced my scart lead.
Well i pluged it into a different tv,and i get the same problems.
What keeps happening now is when i change channel i hear a kind of pop and my sound goes.
The next tec guy is comming out on monday,,i am going to tell him to take the box and put in a brand new one.Because we have a lot more problems with this box than we did with the old one.
