Is the sequel available in rom or ISO format (no links please). Was available on Mega CD as far as i can remember.

Another World was a great game. Ending was really fantastic.

Flashback is available as a rom for the megadrive, snes and jaguar. Its was released on the Amiga so its available as an adf and comes on four disks if I remember correctly.

In the intro to Another world the bloke is sucked into a vortex created in a lab or something. It was a great game but one of those *you have to get it exactly right* type of games which led to pulling out of hair and eventual reading of a walkthrough:) Whatever happened to Delphine Software? They also made Cruise for a Corpse another favorite of mine:dunno:

oh i loved that game, great intro

from that picture Frugu, did that beast on the hill in the backround appear in the next screen or two

did he? did he? DID HE? :) I curse that evil sob as it was the first in a series of utterly masochistic set peices that the game was built on. even though it was evil beyond all measure it was still a compelling game that you couldnt stop playing.

/me remembers the flooding mine shaft and the impossible series of jumps to avoid a watery death

Aha! That's why I remember that game (he says, referring to the pics) - I never played the original but there was a Flash film on Newgrounds about it that was really cool.

I daresay the game would really get on my nerves though, I'm not one for ultra-precise games...

Also : "beneath the canine" site:D

don't think I ever finished 'another world', I remember those black slugs, making a friend in the jail and breaking free, going around the back of the building while the guard tells my buddy to freeze, then shooting him in the back (took me housr to figure that out), killing the guard by shooting the shandeleer when his reflection was below it (it was easy because I saw it on gamesmaster before I got the game).

    what happened in the end?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 404 ✭✭calhob_ie

You'll have to play heart of the alien to find out what happens in the end, and apparantly its even harder than out of this world. You and your alien bud just fly off on a big pteradactyl thingie, after an admittably great fight sequence. Seem to remember thinking that it was a bit of a cop out ending, havn't played heart of the alien yet though, its on the list.

Tremendous game though, was it Delphine who produced it? Now theres a software company, Future Wars, Operation Stealth etc. Anybody know what happened/who bought Delphine?

Had Another World on my trusted ST all those years ago. Great game, terrible short though. Once you knew what to do you could easily finish it in under 30 mins.

I knew it, my damn Pc died last night, had the burial this morning. nice turn out, he would have liked it.

Anyway i guess ill have to use the Girlfriends machine for a while so i havent had a chance to play it yet. i never finished the game as i rented it on the megadrive when i first played it. i wasnt the gaming god that i am now so it took me more than 2 days to finish a game:mad:

jesus man. just let me live in my fantasy world, where Fade to black was never released:(

the demo of the pc version seemed alright actually, it could just be that the ps1 version was a ****ty conversion...

I liked fade to black. However I'm one of the few that did.

Heart of the alien is the true sequel to another world tman.

Yeah, and you have to leg it away as fast as you can and use a vine to swing onto another piece of land.

Remember playing it as a kid. Found it pretty damn hard. Prefered flashback, loved that game. I was amazed at the time at the animated cut scenes.

yeah i loved that game, but i didnt know you could kill the slugs so i spent ages timing it when the beast was chasing me to jump over all the slugs
and the alien saying something like "mytoouba"
    ah the old Amiga!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 947 ✭✭✭neXus9

    Yeah the amiga was fantastic!!

I remember having the amiga 500 while my friends were slumming it with the commodore 64. They had to wait 10 minutes to load a fricking game that looked sh*te!:P

Awe, that's a bit of harsh comment. I spend more time these days emulating C64 games then I do ST or Amiga games.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 404 ✭✭calhob_ie

I find the C64 emulators a bit of a pain to use, any recommendations?

Course Amiga emulations a major pain as well, fave has to be the old ST. Vast majority of stuff works like a charm with no messin required.

Loved Another World and Flashback, have both on PC still.

Amazing thing about Another world was the graphics which still look stylish to this day. The whole thing fit on one floppy and oh yes, the screenshot you saw there for the PC Version, well, the whole thing was done with a 16 color palette.

The Delphine games still look pretty incredible alright. And the cinemas/cut scenes are just gorgeous. I couldn't believe what I was seeing on my humble Mega Drive.

I found Another World horrible to play. Now Flashback, that's got some good gameplay. It's like Prince of Persia on steroids.

Yeah but the ST version was actually missing a few sections that were in the console versions. (i played both) I absolutely loved this game, when i got snes 9xw a couple of years back it was the first game i downloaded for it :D
Favourite bit had to be when you break out of the cage and crush the guard who sounds like hes saying "ilovesnots", then runnign around blasting all the guards while your alien friend unlocks the door, absolute class, and well ahead of its time.
Flashback was cool, but not as good as AW, i found flashback a tad complex compared to AW's platformy-ness.

    Suicide.

Nah seriously, I first got into emulators thru CCS64 so I'm now well used to instinctively pressing the old 'F9' button (even tho the C64 didn't have an F9 button in the first place :) ).

However I found that VICE the easiest to use. Probably doesn't give as good an emulation but it's definetly easy to operate. Maybe give that a try if you haven't done so yet?
