Using offset flat files with ADO

Folks I have a dat file which I want to import into an Access database using ADO 2.5(via a vb6 front-end). This wasn't a problem initially as the file was delimited but the provider has changed the file format to use offsets. I can no longer use simple SQL to import it. Does anybody know how to import an offset file through ADO?
