Saw this on Creative website for under 80 euro.
Would this be a good choice for a graphics card under 100 euro ?

yeah it's a good card, have had mine for over a year now. Core frequency is 275 MHz and the memory frequency is 550 MHz. Compare it to cards around that price and see if the frequencys are similar or better. Mine runs most games quite well.

It'll be a big improvement on your current card. If I were you I'd pick up a 9600 pro second hand here on boards for about €100 or the ti4200 (pretty much the same as the 4800) for €50. Several ones for sale atm :)

The 9600 pro would be another step on top of the 4800

Heres a review of the ATI 9600SE

The fact that is supports DirectX 9 would win me over, its a must for the newer games. I dont believe the Ti-4800 suppports DX9.

    Thanks JoePC

The 9600SE is a very weak card, its a chopped down version of the regular 9600.

The Ti4800se (Really the exact same as a Ti4400) would destroy this card in pretty much all games. The majour thing is it doesent support DX9 . Most of the newer games will support both , and im not sure how quickly DX8 will be phased out (im thinkin quite a while). For playing current games the Ti4400 would be the best option IMO, especially if your going to upgrade again in a years time.

Id definetly look at a second hand 9700/9600/9600pro. 9600 being the minimum IMO, especially if you game a good bit.

Ive decided to either get the 4800se or a Radeon 9550 which is effectively a souped up 9600se.
From the reviews I've read the 4800se has more power.
    What should I get ?

Well TBH its going to be a good while before games come out with only DX9 compatability . You will be playing using DX8 which is fine.

If you are the type of user who just plays a bit and doesent mind too much about low/med setting and dont upgrade much then the 9550 is most lightly the way to go.

If on the other hand you would like much higher settings in current games and are happy with DX8 implementation on newer games then the Ti4800se is a good choice IMO. And you could always upgrade to a 9800pro which should be round the €100 mark when you need to upgrade.

Thats my point of view on it anyway!! Or have a look for a 9700/9600 on the boards for sale.

    Thanks for that.
    Its definitely the 4800SE so.
My main reason for upgrading is that the MX460 doesnt have a pixel and vertex shader needed for the new games.

Actually creative have the 9600 for €99 incl delivery........ mite be a slightly better option? http://ie.europe.creative.com/estore/product.asp?prod=580

It wont perform aswell as the Ti4800se in DX8 games but it has DX9 support........

    I think I'll get the 4800se still.
This whole graphics card market is a scam.
New cards coming out every 2-3 months with completely misleading names.
As you said I can always upgrade in 18 months.

Get yourself a Ti4600, the Ti4800se is the same as the ti4400 except it's AGP8x.
    AFAIK.

I got mine on ebay for €98 including delivery from the U.S.
    Great card.

Good choice, the 9600 may have DX9 support, but it's not really powerful enough to utilise it (like the FX5200/5600)
