Sky dish and moving

I am a Sky customer for over a year and plan on moving in a few months, first to a temporary location then to a permanent one a few months after that.

If I cancel my Sky sub can I keep the dish and digibox, as some people have told me or do I have to give it back to Sky.

If I keep my sub can I setup the dish at my new location myself or do I have to call an installer.

If I can set it up myself how easy is it to do (how precise do I have to position it etc.).

Once your initial twelve months are up you own all the equipment-indeed you own it from day one but need to keep the subscription up to stay within the terms of your contract.

So at this stage yes,you can move the dish and box anywhere you want.

As regards installing it at a new location, its pretty tricky to align a dish for digital, unlike old analog dishes which were much easier.

You could do it yourself, but you may need a cheap signal metre to check the alignment and lock it on to 28 degrees precisely.Have a look at the sticky regarding the list of installers, there are some sites in there which provide all accessories you may need.

Here are a few sites good for information on self installs also:

    1) yes, you can - it's yours as mickey says.
    2) yeah, but it's difficult ( as I have find out myself)
    3) Not easy!!! I tried setting it up myself - it took me two hours, and even then, I didn't get a great signal so I ended up having to pay for an engineer to call out. (Turned out my elevation settings on the dish was wrong).

How far away from your current location are you moving (eg. down the road, other side of the country, moving out of the country etc.)

    Just a few miles.

Thanks for the info, I might give it a go myself and if it fails I will give a local installer a call.

If you haven't got a satellite meter another way to find the correct signal from your box is to buy one of those mini t.v's with the 7" screens. I think I bought mine for €50 and they work on batteries. Hook a cable from the Lnb to the back of your digibox ( also on roof with you) and another cable from digibox to your mini t.v and after a bit of mov'in and shakin bingo the signal comes through on your mini t.v. and you can check the signal strenght and all options on your box.

A little bit more time consuming than a signal metre, but it still works. I have one of the metres for lidl but it breaks my heart a lot of the time the mini t.v. method I find easyier.

    One other thing,
If I cancel my sub, in order to 're-activate' it in the future do I have to pay any extra fees even if I installed the dish myself.

Why not simply cancel subscription and purchase a new subscription at your new address taking advantage of their excellent deals at the mo'. I have 3 No. boxes courtesy of Sky and recently got a new subscription for only €1.

Great value - only delay was the installation of my telephone line!!!:ninja:
