I really like cooking and I’ve got more and more into it in the last few years. However my skills are only as good as my knowledge and therefore they are still being finely tuned.

With that in mind I was wondering if anyone can recommend a really good butcher (in Dublin or surrounding areas) whose meat is of a very high quality. I'm sick of buy expensive meat in the likes of Tesco's or superquinn that barely has flavour and want to have a better selection and choice when it come to meat.

We spend so much time choosing a good bottle of wine but simply stick in the first plastic wrapped piece of meat we come across. Its time for some change

Any help or advice would be great appreciated.

There's (or there was) Downey's in Terenure, which has always been excellent.

The place typically specialises in "odd" meats, so you'll get your barbary duck, your crocodile, etc. there, as well as the becoming-more-regular stuff like ostrich, boar, etc.

I haven't been there since I left the country, but up till then his stuff was always top-notch.
