I was in Tesco yesterday, and needed some wrapping paper for a present. I noticed that they had packets of Tesco "Value" wrapping paper (you know the "white label" Tesco branded stuff?). The label had a price printed on it - 25P.

The Euro price displayed on the shelf above it?

    69c!

Had a similar experiece in Next in Blanchardstown SC. Picked up jeans that had a big €38 over the rail. Liked them, went to buy them, was informed they were €48. Said no way, they were on the 38 euro rail. She asked where, i pointed to the stand, just over my shoulder, she said she would have to check. She came back, producing a tag on the inside leg of the jeans, saying 48, that i had never seen, even when trying them on.

I asked for the manager, she arrived, i told her the problem, and she let the jeans off to me at 38. As i walked out the door, i say a few guys picking up the same jeans fairly sharpish!!

The ba57ards will try and do you every time

    The word is cheap-skate.

Learn how to spell, and don't bother the grown-ups. There's a good lad...

Obviously, you're not overly endowed in the brains department - this is a forum for pointing out ripoffs, and selling a 25p Sterling item for 69c falls into that category, whether anyone wants cheap wrapping paper or not.

(The 4 year old recipient really wouldn't care whether his Thomas the Tank engine was even wrapped in the first place, but just for your information, I'd already picked out 2 other sheets of wrapping paper at 75c per sheet, which is also a rip off, but hardly worthy of a post here. The kid likes bugs as well as Thomas, so I paid €1.50 for wrapping paper with bugs on it).

I expect posts to be legible, for a start.

apparently zara in belfast is about 40% cheaper in belfast than in dublin (conversation overheard by partner, of manager and someone returning an item bought in dublin - they obviously would only refund the (lower) sterling price. mind you rumours are ikea will soon start building somwhere south of belfast.

do ya not think that the sterling price is valid in the uk at vat rate 17.5% where as here they are exposed to 21% and also extra shipping costs, do you honestly expect them to pay that out of their own pockets

castaway do YOU think that the shipping costs to large dept stores in n. ireland are different to southern ireland
i will accept a 5% diff due to vat.
recently bought a guitar my local v. small music shop in small donegal town was cheaper than a online shop in the uk, he obviously has much lower overheads even though his buying pric should be higher anyway i was glad to give my business locally

Wow - someone who obvious hasn't done leaving Cert Maths.

    25p = 21.27p + 17.5% VAT.

At Irish VAT rates, that 25p would be 25.74p! Which is about 39c.

Maybe the extra 30c was "shipping costs"?

(sarcasm alert for the not so bright).

Well - they've "fixed" the problem.

By taking a black marker and obliterating the "25p" printed on each packet!!

(And the sticker on the shelf now says 61c - only 22c more than the UK price, a markup of about 50%).
