TV out - cannot view .avi files on tv screen

I know very little about this stuff, but got one of those €15 tv out kits for the computer, sound and s-video to scart. All works fine, nview picks it up on my geforce4 ti4200 and I can see stuff on the tv screen in full colour etc.

The thing is, when I play a .avi file, it doesn't show up on the TV. Like, if I play it in media player, where the video should appear is just a big black square, even though the sound works. I can play my mpeg files fine, and they show up on TV. I tried different video players, like DivX player and zplayer, but same thing.

    How can I fix this?

Go into display properties and look for overlay mode.

i was going to say zoomplayer, as thats what works for me, but you say you've already tried that....

As was said already, its probably an overlay problem, or outdated drivers problem. Scan around for some info on the overlay.

Also, tvtool isn't great, i didn't like it at all. But, if it works for you, enjoy it. I can't remember the other program i tried... will try to remember it.
