Solving the problem

It would be very foolish of anyone to say they have all the answers, but there surely must be a number of things that could be done to solve the problem that is rip-off Ireland. There is a new consumer committee that has been set up to give another set of recommendations for action on and while it might be a positive step (although i am sceptical), what are the elements that people think should be in any report that would be made and in broader terms, what needs to be done to tackle rip-off ireland?

To start the ball rolling... i think there needs to be a look at how strong competition Authority-type bodies work in other countries (including Britain) and taking the best out of such bodies' practices and powers and thereby increasing resources and/or bringing in legislation to make our competition authority a more effective organisation. One conviction in it's whole existance hasn't been good enough and while consumers associations are vital a broad industry-wide look can be the only way to ensure consumers aren't being ripped off.
