Another heads up for fans of Japanese cinema...

First of all, Yoji Yamada's Twilight Samurai is due to be released on the on 23/08/04, Here on a single disc release and Here on double disc special edition.

Now this is a film I've been really looking farward to for quite a while now. I already pre-ordered the 2-disc edition. And it's also worth noting that the film was up for an oscar this year.

Second up, is Grave Of The Fireflies, which should be released on 2/08/04, and is available from play.com here.

As with Twilight Samurai, I've pre-ordered this also.

While it doesn't say there are any special features yet, the DVD is being released by Optimum, who have also done the excellent Spirited Away R2 DVD, so hopefully there should be some equally fantastic extras for Grave Of The Fireflies too. It might be worth mentioning that the film is number 186 on the imdb.com top 250 movies list.

Can't wait untill August now!

I got the R3 version of The Twilight Samurai from CDWOW a good while ago. Still haven't watched it though, think I'll watch it tonight.

I've had R1 Grave of The Fireflies for ages too. Get with the multi-region times AW.

My neighbour totoro, porco rosso and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind are also getting special edition region 1 releases from the 31st of august. Well worth picking up.

Aye, heard about that alright.
Nausicaa is a quality film altogether, but I've not seen Totoro or Porco Rosso.

Another thing I should add is that Battle Royale 2 is getting released in August too, as shown here.

Yeah, I'd definetly like to see BR2 myself, in spite of the things I've heard about it. Should be good for a laugh at the very least.
