It's called Solaris Nascus. Basically it's caused by tiny bacteria in the nose reacting to elements of the light, in particular UV rays. The bacteria feed on this, and use it breach cell walls to enter the cell nucleii. If it happens continuously over more than a three week period, you should consult with a medic to ensure it doesn't develop into a possibly fatal condition.

or click here for genuine information about the condition, which is actually called ACHOO...

wtf are you complaining about? that's as good as an orgasm... and you won't get arrested for doing it in public

That always happens to me too.
The link to info about it doesn't work for me, and it initiates a spyware download.

You have an allergy to photons. Contact a physicist or a physician and let me know how you're doing.

    Doctor Science cares.

Get sun glasses or if you already wear glasses get anti-glare lenses or clip-ons.

Well i dunno about Solaris Nascus its probably just common hayfever, i'm on the anti histamine tabs for the first time since last summer in the last couple of weeks..

If you have only just gotten this would strongly suspect its nothing unusual, btw strong winter sunshine has the same effect, it doesnt bother me, go get yerself some anti histamine tabs in boots and prolly will cure.

If you have bad hayfever and are on medication , maybe ask yer doc for Xyzal..has changed my life here, no drowsyness, and is only one tiny tablet a day and am sneeze free on it, and googling it seems to have almost no contra indications, but of course..boards aint no place to seek medical help, seek your GP's advice before taking what anyone of the lunatics here advise on board :)

It's not hayfever. I have it too. It's the light, not the air that makes me sneeze. If I squint at the sun then I will sneeze. I thought lots of people have it. I know at least one other. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

It's definitely not hayfever. It has nothing to do with your eyes (so shades won't work). It happens when you tip your head up towards the sun and direct sunlight goes into your nose. Yeah there is something photosensitive there and it is interacting with a nerve.
I thought it happened to everyone??
Unless you work outside and upsidedown or something it shouldn't be a problem.

There are a lot of weird things like this in the body. There is a nerve in your ear that stimulates involuntary coughing. It can only be got at by sticking a large pin into your ear so I don't recommend it except under medical supervision.

Same kind of thing as onions causing tears etc.

Whenever i fee a sneeze coming on looking at ANY bright light usually makes me sneeze. I find it kinda handy. Instead of being on the verge of sneezing i actually can sneeze :)

i get that all the time when cleaning my left ear with cotton buds. I always thought it was that canal you have when you're a baby that drains fluid from your ear to your throaght. I thought it had never closed up properly on me :-\

I sometimes get an irritating sort of popping in my ear when I listen to people speak with certain pitched voices (moderately deep ones).
Anyone else get that? Or know anything about it? Used to get it all the time in adolecence. Recently I got it a few times too.

Here's a neat trick..ok, not really that neat, but try it anyway..next time you feel a sneeze coming on, press your finger against the space just below your nose and above your top lip,it'll usually stop the sneeze.... Im not sure if this will work for a sun-induced sneezing fit though...just one of those worthless tidbits of info :)

I love sneezing. I'd never try to stop it.

Apparently after talking to a docter friend of mine, it's approximately 28% of people have this "condition" if you can call it that and it is congenital. My father has it.
Like many other genetic things I suppose, the ability to curl your tongue, earlobes, possessing that tastebud which finds cucumber repulsively bitter, baldness, double jointedness etc. It's more of a curiosity than anything else.

I thought i was the only one who had this problem. Ive been sneezing alot during the leaving and i need the sun to do so now i know why the examiner is always looking at me looking out the window.........

it is prob something to do with when you are born to clear the airways the light causes you to sneeze out all the birthing mucus....ooooh i hate that word....mucus so clearing the airways....like when they use a suction to clear it now

I thought that it was common knowledge that when you look up to the light you would sneeze when you feel a sneeze coming on (if ya get my drift).

In my town if you say that you feel a sneeze coming, everyone will tell you to 'look up to the light'.
If it's genetic, then 100% of my town must have it.

You have caught a sexually transmitted disease caused by "nasal activity" during sex.

I'm one of those special 28% who have ACHOO. bit of a pain at times, and my record for consecutive sneezes (whilst trying to stop) was 36, so half a dozen isn't too bad IMHO.

usuallly get 6 or 7 in a row when it happens.

best way to fix it is to put the palms of my hands over my eyes to block out all the light and try and find somewhere dark until it subsides.

i sometimes get it off flourescent tubes and PC monitors too (a bit crappy considering I'm an IT engineer).

    Wow you got it bad!
