Firstly ditch that ***** codec pack. They always cause more problems than they solve. Also, they generally contain outdated versions of codecs and are a PITA.

10 seconds of googling brought me this: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Lazy_Man_MKV.htm

Thats all you need to watch an MKV in any directshow capable program. Enjoy.

i tried installing that pack earlier, when i run the file in wmp classic i get the error

wmp could not render some of the pins in the graph you may not have the correct codecs or filters installed

    thats at hotstyle btw

mutant fruit i tried that lazy man mkv file also earlier and it give me the same error as above in wmp classic

drop the file into Virtualdubmod and see if that can open it. The codec i recommended should work fine, providing you have the right video codec installed.

If virtualdubmod can open it, then there's something strange happening.

you kinda lost me there, is virutal dub mod another program, file, folder i need? should i drop the .mkv file in it?

not sure what currently installed codecs i have but i have ace codecs, and the defiler pak to install if needed

    cheers

Weird. I wonder exactly what video / audio is inside that matroska then. (VirtualDubMod will tell you - its freeware, google and install). I use ffdshow, which has workerd for pretty much everything thats been thrown at it, except matroska, for which I downloaded some pack or other from that site. I'm normally not a pack man myself.

hmm virutal dub mod failed to initialize because corona.dll was not found?

Matroska is just a media container...same as an avi.
Windows has an avi parser built in so just the codecs are needed. For mkv you also need a parser for it, in this case this is what you need.

Now, most MKV files you'll find will be using a combo of XviD and Ogg....but can really use any codec under the sun. Subtitles too in srt or sup format.

That matroska pack above should cover these....AC3 audio too ;)

Do me a favour and download Graphedit and open the mkv file in it. Post a screenshot if possible. Hopefully we can spot what your missing. ;)

It's possible the subs are switchable or code be hard encoded into the video...no way to remove them.
If you want to show/hide/switch subs this is it in mplayer on a WinNT box.

its a great film, i liked it.
    .
Glad to see you got it working eventually. Now... to go study some german before the exam tomorrow :p If only i had an enjoyable film with german subtitles :p

    Dataisgod,

The subtitles may be read in from a seperate file in the same directory as the .mkv; these usually have the exact same filename as the movie with either a .sub or .srt extension (e.g. GoodMorningVietnam.mkv, GoodMorningVietnam.sub).

If these files exist, just rename/delete them.

Otherwise, download VirtualDubMod, open the .mkv in it, and select "Streams" -> "Stream List". If the subtitle file is here, just disable it, and "File" -> "Save as", then save as a new file, and try that out.
