Hey, I currently have Sky digital but find it has way too many channels, with 3 out of 4 I don't bother with. I was thnking of moving over to chorus Digital, but i want to know would Chorus Digital be available to me if I had already perviously had Chorus intro?

I presume this is because you are missing ch4?
    And UTV?

I wouldn't move back to chorus if they offered me sweets to be honest.
    They are so so bad.
    /me hugs sky digital.

I had Chorus Cable Digital for a 15 months in Cork and cant write one positive thing about it. Depending on where you live maybe its better quailty than in Cork. I think Thurles, Killkenny have an ungraded network? Anyways its a sham to say the least. Phase 1 is the problem in the whole of Cork City and suburbs. Only half the channels listed on the digital line up are available. Picture quality beggars beleif blocky pixel mosaic effect on all the satallite channels. I seriously got a sharper more vibrant picture from a 10 euro rabbits ears on a portable upstairs on the Irish channels than from there digital service. Please dont even consider Chorus above Sky Digital there worlds apart :)

We've currently got Chorus...My Dad signed up for Horizon back in 1993, we got the decoder and still have it to this day. And the service really isn't up to much - in terms of what you pay for. All that it has going for it is UTV and Channel 4, and as mater and pater were fans of Countdown, 15 to 1 et al, we stuck with it.

However, now that 15 to 1 is gone, Channel 4 has largely become a reality tv/property channel, and UTV is really ITV, there's really little need to stick with Chorus. The only reason we did, (apart from the quiz fixation mes parents have) was that the Da kept on saying to Chorus he'd go to Uncle Rupert if they didn't upgrade to a digital service, and Chorus kept giving him free Sky Sports until they did (put a digital service in place)

That was 3 years ago, and I still don't see no digital cable service happening round our way. I'm well out in the sticks, btw.

Also, the reception through the Chorus box we have has gone to hell in the last few weeks becuase, and i quote, 'the ariel has had it'

I'm not sure the equiqette of this forum on what one can/cannot advocate, but i'm sure that if you really wanted to get ITV and Channel 4 and really wanted to retain the best of the Sky Digital service, there would be ways of getting both. I'll leave it to a veteran of the board to impart info on the grey area I'm advocating!

I'd stick with sky. What's wrong with having "too many channels"? You can NEVER have enough channels!!! (In America, the basic cable packages carry 999 channels!!!)

It depends on whether its cable/MMDS and what area you're in.

Digital cable is sweetness if you're not in one of the crappy areas.
MMDS is ok if you get the signal strength.
Don't ask me why anyone would install someone on less than 74dB.

less than 74dB??? Are you mad?! No-one gets a figure of more than 74dB!!! NTL's signal to noise ration averages about 38/39dB and chorus averages about 27db (28dB on a good day). Is something seriously wrong with my boxes that they have never EVER got anywhere near 74dB??

I have recently moved house and the nice people at Chorus have decided that they
have cabled most of the houses in the development but are refusing to offer the service to the 40 odd houses that remain......No excuse given.

This has really p!"££ed me off as I have put in a lot of extra coax points!!.
An aerial is not an option due to poor reception.

Up to now I did'nt really want SKY because of the lack of Multi room viewing so
are there any other options that anyone can help me with please!!

I have Chorus "digital" since Feb 2004. I've had the engineers out 3 times since then. One of those visits was last Saturday when the nice man told me that the leaves on the trees across the way were interfering with my signal! So being a nice man and all he boosted up the signal in the short term and put in a new power supply to the aerial feed/box; watched TV all day Sat-perfect. Switched it on Sunday morn to find that the feed wasn't kicking in and kept getting the box menu screen, got another nice man today (Wed) to fix that, turns out that the new power supply had blown ("it's been known to happen"). Still waiting on the one and only cherry picker (hoist) that Chorus have to lift my antenna up above those pesky trees!

    Missed 3 days of Euro 2004 :(

Sky without premium channels only EUR 28.50 a month...sounds a good deal?

Ahhh, feel better now that's off my chest..

    Screw etiquette.

Retain Sky, buy activated Free to view card on ebay (now costing about 90 euros but it's a one-time investment), use both, tell Chorus to bugger off. I know you're not currently a Chorus customer but you may as well phone them and tell them you won't be. It'll make you feel better.

Admittedly I'm speaking from a position of hating Chorus but that's only as a result of having more trouble with them than any other company I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. I rejoiced the day they came to pick up their box. I even put up with a fortnight gap in between Chorus and Sky where the only reception I could get was by re-adjusting rabbit-ears any time I wanted to switch between Network 2 and TV3 (the only two channels I could barely get). Never really missed C4 and ITV all that much after either, though a kindly mate in London (who I suspect has trousers that are grumpy) fixed me up with a card. And this way you'll get C5 (or FIVE as they insist on calling it), useless as it generally is, as well.

I would strongly reccomend that you stay with Sky.
The only problem you seem to have with Sky is 'Too many Channels'.
The only problem you would have with Chorus is... Chorus themselves.
Do a search on this site, and you will find many people, including myself, who have had many bad experiences with Chorus, or 'Crappy Chorus' as many have described them. An accurate description in my view.
    :D

Just on a side note about Chorus. They seem to be getting there act together as far as ungrading. A neighbour on my street recieved a letter this week saying his digital service is been upgraded to full. Extra channels will finally be available and the radio gig. Plus broadband is due end of this year he also mentioned. Must have a quick look when hes up and running to see if the picture quailty has improved ;)

Blimey, unless you're talking about Earthman, that's the second time in one week I've been referred to as a "so-called moderator" by someone:D

/me suggests investigating the meaning of "so-called":). It'll help. I'd suggest the word "useless"[1] in future, though you might be asked to substantiate this.

Feel free to give your own opinion, just bear in mind that your post implies that you've not had Chorus and Sky, which will make a comparison difficult.

[1]Or "opinionated bollix of a". That'd do nicely
