okay, so i was playing Unreal Tournament on my computer last night when it crashed. i just mashed the keyboard madly for a coupla min then gave up and presses ctrl+alt+del twice to restart. when i restarted windows was running at 640x480x16colours. its such a pain. i get an error message when windows opens with "There is a problem with your display settings. The adapter type in incorrect or the current settings do not work with your hardware." When i try to change in the Control Panel>Display>Settings menu i find the drop down menu of color palette and screen resolution has only the one option and a line on that panel reads "(Unknown monitor) on (Unknown device)." there doesnt seem to be any problem with my drivers, although i cant find one for the monitor; should there be?

many thanks for any help anybody can give me.

    Go into your Device Manager.
Delete your display adapter and your monitor and reboot.
It should autodetect and reinstall them.

Make sure you have the discs that came with your machine/GFX card to hand though, just in case.

Failing that restart in MS-DOS mode and type "scanreg /restore" and from the list of dates restore to yesterday date.
