Anyone know of a way to get rid of scars? I have one through my left eyebrow as a result of a bike accident (oops!),and hair won't grow on it, even around a year later. I didn't do anything at the time, because I thought it would be "cool" and "hip". What a fool I was. Anyway, my docter offered me plastic surgery, is that still a option? Or is there a way of getting rid of it short of taking some @ss skin and sticking it over the area?

plastic surgery is the only way or skin graft, both expensive.
I have one under my eye from ehh falling on a sharp pointy object ;) and lucky i wear glasses as you cant see it but when i wear contatcs my scar makes me look scary.

Only options i had was surgery and i have mine over 12 years and it still looks bad .

Hair transplant. In the meantime get some suitably coloured eyeliner(?) make-up.

Have lots of scars my self they dont go away. But what i have found is that when they are new they are very read. But over time "some years" it goes back to almost the same colour of your skin. Normaly a bit whiter then your skin. As for hair it never grows back on me scars. Lucky for me there only on my leges, arms under chin and on top of me head, places where you would not notice them.

As for your scar maybe you should ask a friend what do they think of it. Im sure people out there c you as for what you are and do not juge you on your scar.

I've had a chunk taken out of my knee when i was younger from an accident involving rusty beer cans in long grass and soccer, ouchies, I don't find the fact it doesnt grow hair that off putting, it's more the numbness of it, it feels really weird. Stupid nerves. I put a scissors through my hand once too, can't wait to see what that looks like when the hair on my hand thickens

i've a horizontal scar about half an inch long running through one eyebrow. came off my bike as a kid and landed on my face. managed to split my lip and need stitches for that while i was at it. niether of them ever bothered me. i've a large scar on one leg form surgery where i burst stitches. not bothered by that either (except for remembering to put sunscreen on it) my hands and arms are covered in scars(mostly small) from dozens of various knife cuts. they part of who i am i don't car what people think. only have your scar covered up if it bothers you, **** what the rest of the world thinks

I know of a way to get rid of scars but have decided to keep my knowledge secret from you and all those scientists and doctors and plastic surgeons who have been unsuccessful thus far in finding a way to prevent scar tissue forming.

So while you are lucky in posting on PI and finding someone who knows how to get rid of scars, you are unlucky in that I don't want to tell you.

     :D

BTW the @ss skin idea is a non-runner unless you have a hairy arse

    :D

I have a scar just above my right eye brow from collapsing outside Club '92 a few years back, landing head first on the ground. Luckily I was wearing glasses, but it was the glasses that caused the big gash over my eye. 8 hours later in St. Vincents A&E and 6 stitches. I too have no hair growing around the scar but it's not all that noticable as it doesn't go through my eye brow. If it really bothers you, look in to plastic surgery, but tbh, it'll be expensive and it'll never be 100% the way it was before your incident/accident.

I had heart surgery as a kid and have a sacr down my chest as a result. It healed very well, but the scar never tans and no hair grows on it.

I think that you might just have to buy an eyebrow pencil and use it to colour in the missing bit.

I knew a bloke in my last job who had heart surgery as well - he was a mad scots who delighted in showing the scar to 'me wee lassies'. You could hear the "Eeuwwww!!"s up and down the office, great laugh.

Its all how you play it, is what I'm saying.

get it tatooed over? Is this possible on scar tissue? Or if sugery is too expensive look into permanent makeup, lasts about 6months. A friend of mine had an accident much the same where she missed the bottle someone was throwing at her :) It left a very Shane from boyzown scar on her eyebrow which she got "filled in" with permanent makeup.

i have some pretty nasty scars on my arm and chest from extensive skin grafting after a motorbike accident.

huge scarring, and was offered a gel patch called 'Cica-Care' made by Lohmann or SmithKline or someone like that which makes the scars almost 'disappear', but couldn't be arsed about it, so now i just got the scars.

they do subside after a while though and sure it could be worse!

Can't scars be removed with laser treatment?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 53 ✭✭endanagle

think they can but the results vary and its very expensive...

the cica care is expensive as well but not nearly as exp as laser treatment or plastics!

if you could be bothered using it!

Hair will never grow back, but you could get a hair transplant. Also you could look into Band-Aid scar healing strips (http://www.bandaid.com/scar_healing.shtml). I'm not sure if you're male or female, if you male don't worry about it. If you're female, bad 1, altough a little scar on the eyebrow sounds kinda sexy to me, TBH!

i smashed into a lamp post on a bmx when i was younger and lost three teeth the teeth that grew back my permanent teeth where weak and i lost one as a result i also have a funky scar on my lip though for some reason i've never been conscious of it. i also smacked my chin off a window ledge on one of those lolo balls (you know the ones kinda shaped kinda like saturn) and that left a scar. I also have a mole on my forehead, come to think of it i haven't faired very well in the general marks/scars on face department

i also had a hernia operation about 4 years ago which left a scar about three inches long but its down quite low :)

Anyone know how well knife scars heal up?

I got stabbed back in November, last year and it is still very red and raised from the surface by about 2 or 3 mm...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭weeginger

S*** one getting stabbed. Am sorry to hear that. I cut myself when I was younger and had cigarette burns on my arms and legs. It is not as much that I care what people think but I just got really annoyed with everyone asking me questions about it. People would be uncomfortable and not want to site beside me, even on the bus if I was wearing short sleeves I'd get stared it. Not too bad in winter but crap in summer.

Afew years I got the scars lasered. They are not entirely gone but they are not noticable unless you are looking really close. The laser corrects the colouring and it looks less raised but the skin doesn;t tan and the hair didn;t grow back so I don't think its worth bothering for an eyebrow. It was sore and expensive, but for me it was worth it !
