i phoned sky today at 1..00 pm to get my new card activated.they took my details and said the card would be activated right away and could take anytime between 20 mins and two hours.
after arriving home from work i find that all channels on my package are being received except channels 101-104 rte etc.
does it take this long to receive the irish channels and should i ring sky back at once or i'm i being too hasty.
the following is what is happening
(1)channels 101-104 have an 08 message saying this programme is not available
(2)tv guide shows correct line up i.e 101 rte etc
(3)bbc1 and bbc2 ni are on channels 169 and 170
(4)sky news is showing irish ads
(5)i can still view itv regions through other channels and rte etc are not available to watch in other channels.

does anybody have any valued information as to what is happening and whats my best option available ring sky or wait.

    regards
    kieran

I heard that it can take up to 72 hours for a card to full activate.

    1) is your box connected to the phoneline? If it is, then it may dial-out to sky and activate

    2) did you try rebooting your box?

I know that there is a thread from a while back here in the Sat forums, but I can't seem to find it.

thanks for the quick reply pk
my box isn't connected to the phone does this make any difference to the time a card is fully activated.
i'll try the reboot to see if it helps.

Give them a call again, I have noticed in the past if channels are missing, they usually appear in the time it takes to hang up the phone and return to the television! On one occasion, Sky Sports Extra was missing from my sub,18 hours after activation, and when they resent the signal,I could hear it kicking in while I was still on the phone to Customer Services!

Similarly with my Sky+ activation, when I was upgrading the card from normal use to avail of the recording facilities,it only took 3 minutes and was done by the time I hung up the phone.

It may take up to 24 hours or longer, but a resend cannot do any harm.

The signals to cards are sent over air and and do not rely on the phoneline. In the case when a line is required, the modem in the box simply makes the request for an activation signal, instead of you having to ring up yourself.

I had the same prob when I got sky last year. I rang sky and told them about the prob. the guy sent another signal and right away Irish channels on 101 - 104

This is a relatively common occurrance. Your card was in a confused state not quite sure if it is an Irish or a UK card. The Irish EPG is displayed but the UK specific channels are decrypted. As well as having ITV1 in other channels you would also have ound that you could watch Channel 4, five (and ITV2 if your on the Family Pack or higher). If you have a good terrestrial reception on the Irish channels you may have been better off sticking with what you had.

Think I'll do a new thread on this and the boys can make a sticky.

you gave it away along time ago.

The Saffron County as I have already stated.

maybe you should have called Sky and told them that your card was issued on the Island of Ireland and wishes to avail of its right to an ROI status.:p
