    Hi guys.

Anyone know how to change the default ftp banner on an AIX box? :

    Connected to x.x.x.x.
220 hostname FTP server (Version 4.1 Wed Feb 27 11:03:17 CST 2002) ready.
    User (x.x.x.x:(none) ):

I presume its in the inetd.conf but I can't seem to find much about the options of configuring ftp servers? Before I hear the SSH replies, I know. Just doing this as a stop gap until I'm in a position to replace it for good. Any help would be appreciated.

    probably with a C compiler :-)

Alternatively, have a look in ~ftp/etc
    for banner or message files,
    you might strike it lucky.

Thanks niallb. Looks like its hardcoded alright:( Think its time to put in SSH instead.

wu-ftpd is also available for AIX, you might install that instead,
though not on an exposed box! I'll say that again - not on an exposed box!
Installing ssh and sftp would take the same length of time though

    http://dtucker.freeshell.org/openssh/ looks good,
though it's a while since I stuck ssh on an AIX box.

Use the Software Installation and Maintenance from smitty
once you have the packages down, or if you're comfortable
building from source, use the latest portable code from openbsd.

    Good luck,
    NiallB

That great. Thanks for the link niall. Probably put ssh on. Loads of scripts to change and test though.
