Re-doing this thread cos it got lost yesterday.

Can anyone recommend a dermatologist in the Dublin area?
A friend of mind has adult acne so she'd like to know who is the regarded as being good in the field of dermatology, since its expensive and waiting list are long. So there's no point waiting to see someone who isn't very good.

    Appreciate your help folks.
    Thanks

I recommend Dr Cal Condon in the Blackrock\Charlemont clinics. I think your friend will need to get referred by their GP, but the wait for an appointment shouldn't be too long.

Yeah she will need to be referred by a gp.

I gave up on dermatologists years ago, I went when I was seventeen (twice) the guy gave me stuff which worked initially but then stopped working and only ended up making my skin extreemly dry and sore (I did tell the guy that I swam a lot), he told me that he had something that would get rid of achne once and for all but he thought it was too extreeme and that my achne wasn't bad enough. Im now 22, the achne is just as bad as it was then plus I have scars from it, ill be damned if I waste anymore time on medications that burn my skin or doctors who are just guessing with said medication (my doctor recently asked if I wanted something for it).
    Im not bitter........

btw a friend of the family used to have bad adult achne, the doctor told her that having a baby would sort it out (hormones or something), then again that was over 20 years ago

Sorry to hear your experience wasn't great. I've been to my guy a few times for different treatments, including acne and he's very good.

If you want to confirm about having to go to a GP first, his contact details are here .

Just thought I let you know what worked for me.
I tried lots of stuff for acne and none of it worked. Also, acne is not cured by diet, exercise, or washing, it's a hormonal thing.
I never went as far as Roaccutane but the acne was severe enough to warrant it. Eventually, I was at the end of the line, and went looking for a cure on the net and I actually found one!
Vitamin B5 supplements, also know as pantothenic acid. You have to take big doses for about 6 months and gradually come down to a maintenance dose. No side effects. You can get it in most health shops. I noticed an improvement in about 2-3 weeks and after about 3 months I was completely clear.

There's loads of info on the net on this, do some googling.
    Here's some I found.

Good luck, this worked great for me, I can't guarantee anything, I just thought I'd pass it on.

I went to DR. Wendy Lynch in the blackrock clinic, I was referred to her by GP to treat my Acne. I think she also has a clinic in charlemont.

Then again as I wrote yesterday before it got lost maybe trying the contraceptive pill might be a little less drastic. A GP would probably suggest Dianette but other versions of the pill might also help.

Oh I didn't see your other post, I did a quick calculation with the friend I was talking about, going by her sons age it happened round 30 years ago. That was good catholic Ireland, the doctor probably didn't want to give the pill.

btw, does anyone know if the scars ever improve? I don't really have any dents in my skin but there is a lot of purple dots where spots used to be (all of my spots/pimples turn into these), would a good dose of sunshine clear it?

Thanks very much for the help guys, i'll look into the suggestions.

Unpossible - A girl in work here used to have bumps on her skin from bad acne that she had as a teenager. She got some kind of laser type thing done, and it cleared up. It was very expensive though (around €300 per session), and it took her two to get it fully cleared.

The discolouration should improve over time - but the bumps aren't going anywhere unfortunately. AFAIK - the laser treatment Zoton mentioned is the only solution for them.

there isn't any bumps, one or two den'ts though. Its discolouration, the skin is flat and smooth but still purple

Well the flat smooth skin should be alright in the long run - but it will take a while (years) to right itself. Sunshine will help.

if u put vitamin e oil directly onto your skin it will help clear up scars, big or small. you can by a little bottle with a roller top on it from your chemist. It is perfect for any type of scar.

My gf makes me put toothpaste on fresh sopts/pimples, seems to work (except you end up with a white pillow)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭aodh_rua

I've heard that one - someone told me sudocream does the job too (not that it'll help with the white pillow).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 698 ✭✭✭Zoton

I've used sudocrem myself. It does reduce swelling and inflammation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,191 ✭✭✭Unpossible

well its ok after about half an hour when the past dries until then you have to remember not to roll over. sudocream is worth a try I suppose, i used to use it when I was younger as I used to get a lot of rashes on my face (funny how no doctor ever asked me about that)

yeah its the zinc in sudocreme and toothpaste that dries up your skin and so helps get rid of spots, but it doesn't help prevent them actually coming in the first place.

In answer to the original question...
Try Sean O'Loughlin in the Mater Private. He goes for the "cure it for good rather than treat it temporarily" approach. He's easy to talk to so it makes the whole thing more straightforward and painless. Hope it helps!

I see Dr Gillian Murphy who is in Beaumount and also sees people at her home in Rathmines on a Saturday morning.
She couldn't be nicer and is excellent. I think she's the Chair of the Irish Association of Dermatologists at the moment too....

Hi, this is my first time to post, has anyone out there ever had adult chickenpox? I am recovering from a very severe dose and have unfortunatly been left with alot of scars on both my face and body. I didn't even scratch but was still left with scars and my confidence has shattered .Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My GP prescribed a roll-on colourless lotion called "Dalacin T". Admittedly, my facial acne wasn't overly severe, but this stuff certainly cleared it up.

Was recommended Dr Moktar in the Beacon by my GP, he does public in Tallaght and private in Sandyford.

Waiting list was very short privately.
