I've been here three years and I still can't believe ****ing taxi drivers think I'm some kind of tourist and try to rip me off.

I just had some moron drive me home by going halfway there and driving all the way back then back again. He kept telling me he was going the quick way despite the fact I was telling him the exact street names to go.

I finally gave out **** to him in the car when I finally lost it after saying "NEXT LEFT" (whereby he turns right after saying, ok).

First taxi driver in my life I'm going to report.

Round here it's hard to get a taxi driver who doesn't insist on giving his view of the world to you whether you want to hear it or not.

Plus 99% of them seem to be fascists.

The best place to report them is not to the Carriage Office (in Dublin Castle), but to Aer Rianta - that means that they won't be able to work in the Airport anymore.

And yes they are stupid - this is why they are working as taxi drivers. The councils are simplifying the fare structure so the new drivers don't get confused.

Any taxi / cab drivers on boards.ie?

I don't know but I found you comments somewhat rude. Yes there are rip off taxi drivers but I know a lot of them in Dublin area near where I live and out of 50-60 taxi drivers I've only had 2 maybe 3 I didn't like.

Btw, Eamonn Dunphey (sp) once said on radio that all Dublin taxi drivers were scum and rip off merchants (sic) and not one taxi driver in Dublin would pick him up after that. The firm that handled him were at one stage offering extra cash to the fare to any driver that would pick him up. I believe he had to apologise on radio before they would pick him up again.

I think SickBoy is, or is related to/knows somneone that is, as he was about the only person defending them during the recent strike in a Humanities thread smile.gif

Sometimes you can meet really nice guys who are chatty and don't overcharge. But the amount of times I've been charged 7 or more quid for travelling a distance I'd walk in a half hour, just **** me off.

Some guys just completely ignore directions as hobbes said. And in cork it's pretty obvious when they try to do that (street layout)

I apologise, I shouldn't have called taxi drivers dumb - I have edited the post and am now calling them stupid, so as not to offend those with speech impairments.

So the other night, Snowball and I have a taxi outside the Bleeding Horse (Camden Street). We ask to go to Eglinton Road (Donnybrook - about 1.5 - 2 km away). He then turned the wrong way. He then took us via Leeson Street bridge (adds about a pound to the fare and then asked where Eglinton Road is.

Or being charged the 'Extra Passenger Charge' (40p per person) when I am on my own.

No disrespect Hobbes, but I think that sums up quite a few taxi drivers.

when ever I get one late one night around 4am or so, they do be askin yeah all quesrion's not personal ones though they don't seem to over charge me, they go the way I ask them to go if they don't know were the area is, and I don't think I've ever been over-charged
