The Gardai aren't going to give out copies of cctv recordings. They can and will investigate something alright but even getting a look at a tape is a no-no.

Aren't they obliged to give you any footage of yourself for whatever it costs them to put it on a tape for you? No reason required. I know this is the case in England and I thought it was the case here too. Data Protection etc. etc.

I'm pretty sure that they can't just hand out copies, I'm not sure what the legal position is though so I could be totally wrong.

if there was crime or you were charged with something you can ask for video footage taht has you in it. but it doesn't sound like that what you want it for

You might also want to take into account that such tapes are recorded at an incredibly slow speed so to find the incident you are interested in can be very very difficult and painstaking on an 'ordinary' video recorder.
