Printing from Firefox/Thunderbird

I'm running Debian sid, and I have CUPS working fine - I can print a test page, and I can print from OpenOffice. However, I can't print from Firefox or Thunderbird. The print dialog in these apps gives me the following options, none of which work:

    lp@:64
    xp_ps_spooldir_tmp_Xprintjobs@:64
    xp_pdf_spooldir_tmp_Xprintjobs@:64
    PostScript/default

I've done some goggling, and tried some things, but I'm not getting anywhere. Anyone come across this before?

    TIA

PostScript/default works for me. I have the cupsys-bsd package installed, which provides the lpr command. This means that Firefox can simply print using lpr, and cups takes it from there.

well i have 2 printers here, a laserjet and an inkjet
    in firefox i just use
    lpr ${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME:+'-P'}${MOZ_PRINTER_NAME}
prints from the laser jet, but can you print from the cmmand line?

    printer names(drivers) are in /etc/cups/ppd/
    For example I have
    HP-inkjet-colour.ppd and HP-laserjet.ppd

so can you print from command line specifying those.

    with lpr?

I have an Epson Stylus Color 460 on this box (epson460 in CUPS) and a LaserJet 5L on the missus' Windows box via Samba (laserjet in CUPS). The Epson is default, so lpr prints to it. To print to the laser, I use lpr -Plaserjet.

In Firefox, if I want to print to the Epson, I hit "Properties..." in the Print dialog and set the printing command to "lpr". To print on the laserjet, I change it to "lpr -Plaserjet". Not quite as simple as picking a printer in the Print dialog, but not that much harder either.

Depending on your windowmanager you can use kprinter (kde & gnome) or xpm (*box & other efficent). Both of these tie in either directly to your printer or to a cups server.

    Regards,

    Ben
