Not having a clue about Hardware I thought I'd ask the experts.

So I inherited a PC but the mobo and psu are fried.

The Chip is a PIII 550 socket and seems to have survived the frying.

What kind of motherboard do I need to get to plug this chip into. Is it worth my while ? Or can I get a faster mobo and chip for a cheap price too ?

    Thanks.
    Marcus.

Not really worth your while....but still, what type is it? Slot 1 (the cpu will be built into a big heatsink) or Socket 370 (the cpu will be on its own and look like an anthlon)? I'd say you'd be better off just to build a cheap athlon xp pc, it would be way faster and not expensive really.

    It's a Slot 1

Look for a Slot 1 motherboard with a Intel 440BX Chipset AFAIK
