With Sky +, you can re-wind shows, I was wondering, how far back can you go?
Lets say a show was over 1 hour ago, and I never recorded it, could I rewind back to it, or is it just the show that is currently on??

    thanks,

    Flogen

i think you can set it from 5 minutes to 1 hour but don't take my word as 100%

If you haven't recorded the programme then you must be watching it in order to rewind.

I have sky plus and am delighted with it.
I haven't ever tried to go back from watching another programme to view a previous one up to an hour earlier... however...

Sky plus has inteligent recording whereby it records programmes as opposed to times.

If you did not record the programme you cannot rewind to it afaik, if another programme on that channel has started.
You can only rewind during a programme that you are watching if you are not recording it.
If it was otherwise then the hard drive would fill with in a day or so
There is a menu where you can set up instant rewind to anywhere from 5 minutes to sixty minutes.
That said of course if you have it set to 5 minutes theres no way at all that you can go back an hour obviously.

ShaneOC ( who has pressed every button on his skyplus box fifty million times will be able to confirm this when he gets back from holls :D )
    Or Maybe Mickeyboymell will know...

Are you sure about this? It has missed the end of shows for me several times now where the previous programme over ran which seems to suggest it starts recording at a particular time rather than when triggered by the commencement of the programme itself

    Chuckle :D.

You can set the instant rewind buffer on a time basis from off to 1 hour. If you have not changed the channel you can rewind the full hour no matter if it is a different programme or not. Each time you change channel the buffer is cleared which is why there is a slight delay in changing channels (compared with a regular digibox).

And for the millionth time Earthman - stop exagerating :D

Isn't it the broadcaster who changes their EPG listing that stops you missing shows. RTE never bother doing it so when the west wing, for example, started five minutes early for no real reason the other week. Sky+ missed it and started recording int he middle of it. Idiots.

Well if you press record during a programme it stops recording a few minutes after the end of that programme.
Given that its a one press , it must be programme related not time related unlike a video which wouldn't have a clue when a programme ends and will only record for as long as you set it for.

And Shane... you have pressed everything on the sky plus a million times-stop underestimating :D

Correct, which probably explains Dubs problem at times.
It is the EPG obviously that it is going on and RTÉ don't correct it when they over run or sometimes when they even completely change their schedule! but thats RTÉ for you...
I however have a UK sub, so no RTÉ on my sky plus box-means I don't have that problem, haven't noticed it at all actually.

I dont think the Irish channels have fully grasped the full potential of the Epg apart form channel placement on 101 to 104. Its regular to see overruns, program changes and incorrect/incomplete EPG listings on RTE & TV3,TG4.

Sky and other broadcasters seem to be more rigorus in their schedules.

On the recording front,I have the setting set to automatic for adding to start and end of recordings, which seems adequate, however I rarely record anything off the Irish channels.

The only occassion it becomes an issue is if you have two programmes scheduled to record before the current recording ends (overspill with the automatic record settings recording the adverts at the end of the current recording, and before the start of the new programmes)Again, not a problem,as it shows up as Part Recorded, but all you have missed is a few adverts.

I have instant rewind set to 1 hour, but never really use it as I hit the live pause if I am stepping out of the room to put the kettle on or answer the door!

The rewind is only useful if you want to review a piece of dialogue or a goal for example.

Having recently viewed and deleted all my programmes,I found I still had 1% disc usage, so I can only presume it is the amount of space reserved for these functions.

I cannot praise Sky+ enough and have already "converted" a few of my mates, and luckly enough have had no problems at all with my receiver, having read some of the horror stories out there of malfunctioning boxes.

You don't have to be "watching a programme" to rewind it, another way to use it is to for instance make sure RTE1 is tuned in when you switch the telly off. Then when you come in from work the next day at say 6.20pm you can rewind to the start of the news to watch it from the start. You can of coarse only do this with the channel that comes on when you switch on the telly.
