Alright folks. So far very little testing has been done. Three attempts with sapphire cards all worked, unlocking the 4 pipelines and upping the clock speed to that of an xt. Two other attempts were made with bba cards and both failed. Failing to unlock them does not damage the card btw. It just means you have to retry or give up and be happy with your pro.

    linkage

You will need a magnifying glass and a small very thin sharp knife as well as some conductive paint. A steady hand will be handy as well :D I'd say the best thing for scraping off the protective layer would be one of those tiny screwdrivers.

If you can do this you should become a brain surgeon. Get modding you slags.

According to the wonderful EliteBastards, the latest modded drivers contain a soft-mod to an X800-XT. You may not need that knife after all...

That's complete BS. They can't be soft modded as the connections for the other 4 pipelines have been severed. This is the purpose of the hardmod. Your just reconnecting those 4 pipelines with the conductive paint.

Once they are connected you can softmod it to a xt so that it has an xt BIOS and appears as a xt on your comp.

    Hmmm, anyway,
is pro not a pro for a reason?
Would you not get a better overclock from a real XT?

They use the same core, I think the xt may have slightly better memory.

but isn't the pro a slightly dodgier version of the same core, so thats why they turn them into pro's? Surely all the pipes won't work on most of the cards, there has to be a far precentage that just aren't XT's?
Anyway, thats was in response to a missing post saying they'd spend the extra €70 and get an XT. I was just agreeing with that.
When you spend that much, why not go all the way.

No they are the exact same core. It might not overclock as high as an xt but there will be very little in it. You will go past xt stock speeds anyway. It's like 9800pro se's. Any 9800pro se that has an r360 core can be soft modded to unlock the extra pipelines. Some had an r350 core though and they can't. With x800's every core is the same.

It's more than 70 euro extra for an xt. You can get a pro for 398. Show me an xt thats only 70 more than that. Try 150 euro.

The mod is so small that it would not be noticed. Do you think they are going to take the hsf off and examine that tiny area? If your buying from an online shop or a local shop they definately will not notice it. Your warranty will be fine. The only people who might notice it would be ati if it was a bba card but the mod hasn't worked with any of their cards yet anyway.

Overclocking voids your warranty and everyone does it. Why? They can't tell if you have or not. Enjoy iy while it lasts.

Sure overclocking they would never notice unless the card burned-out or somthing because of overclocking. But considering this mod has been well publicized i would think some places getting e-mails from ppl wanting to RMA the cards would check to see if the person try'd to mod it.Ne way i dont really care tbh...but i wouldent do it to my card thats all im saying.

Even if you burnt the card out they still wouldn't be able to tell you overclocked. It would just be put down as a faulty card. Trust me I know plenty of people who have had to rma these kind of cards with no problems. Anyway the mod is virtually impossible to detect if you remove the conductive paint. Trust me they will not check it. The card can't be damaged from doing this mod either if you follow the instructions correctly.

Why would anyone buy the asus model. Overpriced piece of crap with worse cooling than the stock cooler. You can get a sapphire x800xt on jescomputer for 398 euro. That's 175 euros cheaper than that asus x800xt.

You seen any reviews of the Asus model yet Bloodbath.....there last few cards have been close to the levels of performace from the ATI cards themsleves. I believe saphire is generally the buget option. All I know is the Asus 9800xt outpreforms the Saphire version. Well check it into but I would expect the same from X800XT series.

Lol, ok fine we will agree to disagree,i just took the Asus as a example,i dont know much about the performance between the same models but differant makes of cards because i havent looked into that just yet.But Jes are not selling any XT cards on their site as far as i can see.And according to komplett no matter what make you buy all the XT's are only E70-E85 more.

Ok lets get things cleared up. All the cards perfrom pretty much the same. Their is less tha 1% difference between the manufacturers performance wise. Some manufacturers cards overclock more than others though. This is only because of the cooling.

Ati own Sapphire. Sapphire makes ati's own cards as well as powercolour cards and their own sapphire models. All ati does is make the core. Sapphire makes the chipsets. The cooling on that asus x800pro is crap. If you want a high performance cooler get the HIS one or get a sapphire and wait for an artic vga cooler to be released for it. Better results at a fraction of the cost.

Here we go with the marketing jargon, and I hate to be a total noob but "256MB Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro Lite-RTL" I don't like the sound of the Lite part in that title. Anyone know exactly what they mean by that? And any idea when Jes are getting stock again? If it goes on much longer I might just wait for the XT. Pity I missed the last few pro's on Chillblast last week :(

  • Moderators Posts: 5,580 ✭✭✭Azza

Have to disagree with that/There is more than 1% difference between different brands performace wise. Not huge but probably around 5%.

Was looking into HIS but the problem is there only releasing pci-express X800XT with the artic cooler already installed on them. Looks like a good card.

Anyone know exactly what they mean by that?

The "Lite" version is basically the retail version except without any games included. Think Sapphire say its the retail without the frills (frills being games)............ so you just get the basics.

Yea but what hes saying is that if Jes had the XT's in stock there would be €70-85 in the difference as has been shown from all the cards listed previously. The exact same can be seen from overclockers ............... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/sapphire_ati_graphics_cards.html

So there should only be €70-80 in the difference between Pro and XT , you cant compare two different suppliers products......... we all know jes are cheaper on pretty much everything.
