    Hi

Has anyone heard if the hard shoulders are going to be opened up to buses?

    Cheers!

News to me! Where would this happen, Dublin or generally? Most Hard Shoulders are too damn narrow for a bus.

anywhere there is a hard shoulder, especially leading in/out of dublin.

example: commuter buses coming up from Mountrath/Mountmellick (Laois) to Dublin, the bus could use the hardshould from hard shoulders at Johnstown/Kill etc.

I have been on and have seen plenty of buses do it.

Aparrently, the Minister for Transport is looking at the idea and I have heard from one or two police officiers (no i was not in the hard shoulder) that it is an idea which is being considered.

makes sense for cummuter buses etc.
do not know about speed limit and safety.

It was suggested, however there are obvious problems associated with it - nowhere for cyclists and pedestrians to go when a bus blows by at 50mph. Whatever about it's implementation in urban areas, it doesn't seem like a great idea in rural ones.
