Amps/Boosters

Quick question regarding Amps. I have access to a socket which means I can get a plug in booster within a metre of the aerial. Would this be as effective as a masterhead amp (which I wouldn't be able to get much closer)? Not much of a techie yet (getting there through these forums though!), so not 100% they do the same thing. Already have the plug in booster, so obviously if that would give the same performance I don't really want to spend the extra money.

I hope you don't mean you'd plug it in and leave it outside on the roof - I'm sure you don't but just in case.....
A masthead amp is a much better route to go down, those little plug in Boosters aren't really much use and can make your picture worse as then tend to pull in everything rather than the specific signals you want.

Boosters work better when theyre mounted near the aerial.

Masthead amps sit up near the aerial which is why theyre better

That worked anyway, cheers for the help.

Obviously wasn't going to put the plug in booster outside - where it is now is as near as I'd get a Masterhead Amp anyway. Did it last night and it does the job.
