    Evening all,
Got a new Maxtor120gig SATA drive form Komplett yesterday. Ive tried everything to install it with no joy. My motherboard is a ABIT IS7G. It came with a SATA Driver floppy. I tried booting with the Win XP disc and hitting f6 to install 3rd party scsi driver, loading the floppy which looked promising, and ended up reinstallin windows altogether. Still no joy.
Tried all congifiurations in Bios. No joy.
Theres loads of other stuff ive tried but ye'd probably laugh at me!!!

Anybody had any problems like this.

    Really stuck with this one.

    Cheers Wavey

Had the same problem a while back, Your not able to install windoze on the drive because its not getting recgonised, on the motherboard the may be a jumper to enable the two SATA ports, this is the case on the ASUS, have a look & get back.

    Thanks joePC

    Cheers for the reply joe,
Im not actually trying to install xp on the sata drive. Im just trying to install it as a storage drive.
I cant see any jumpers on the mobo so im still kinda stumped.

have you tried doing what you did, but without the winxp cd? as in just stick in the boot floppy and boot with the drive connected.

    Got it sorted.
Turns out it was a dodgy power connecter so the drive wasnt being detected at all!
Now i have to dl all my antivirus/xp updates again.

    Balls.

Eh, with both 2k and xp during boot of cd it'll say press F6 to install 3rd party SCSI or RAID drivers, press F6 and put in the floppy disk with the SATA drivers on it. You can then install the OS on the SATA drive no problem. I know this cause I've a machine with only SATA HDDs and did it no problem whatsoever. Took about < 10 mins to install Win 2k
