Darina Allen Cookery Program on RTE 1

Considering the current difficulties the Government is having in relation to the Brian Curtin affair I was pretty miffed when watching RTE 1 last night and a cookery program connected to Ballymaloe House (excuse the spelling) was broadcast presented by none other than Darina Allen. Now correct me if I'm wrong but Ballymaloe House is owned by none other than Tim Allen a man with a conviction in relation to purchasing child pornography. As a licence payer I strongly object to RTE commissioning and broadcasting programs which will directly benefit such an individual, remembering that Tim Allen was convicted for the crime, Curtin is being removed from his postition without such a conviction.

Your opinions on this would be appreciated, and I'd appreciated if moderators could amend above posting if considered liabel in any way.

All RTE are doing is giving another cookery show to Darina Allen, who runs Ballymaloe. The fact that she is married to Tim Allen shouldn't influence her position in doing the show. She probably would have had another one sooner if it hadn't been for all the bad publicity surrounding Tim.

As I understand it, he has no shareholding in the school since his conviction.

It obviously doesnt stop people joining the cookery school either.

Appently the series was made prior to the child porn scandal...this was covered on Liveline yesterday and many it seems are up in arms about her being back on the telly.

So people on Liveline think that all those connected to anyone convicted of crimes should be banned from the airwaves?

The man's unfortunate wife and mother have enough to suffer without being tarred with the same brush as him.

I don't think it's fair to stop / kill her career because of her husband's criminal conviction.

    Just my 2c

Are we to assume that the old boys club in RTE have come together with public funds to bail their old pal Tim Allen out !!!

wow, you are bordering on slander here! Since when was Tim Allen a friend of RTE??

I'd actually prefer if comments were backed up with facts or stated as opinions if thats all they are...

Thanks for editing the original post Earthman, yeah my comment was not based on fact as BrianD has pointed out but was a case of shooting from the hip. Therefore I'll publicly retract the comment abou the old boys club!! Sorry about that, I'll carefully read in future before posting ;)

....but still, if TV3 had brodcast the series I wouldn't have a quibble, my feeling is that the state broadcaster using public funds should adhere to some degree of standards especially in this case given the association Tim Allen has with the business I'm still very miffed. Look at the ITV's treatment of some of their personalities when allegations were made against them which were later to be proven untrue, some of them are still off the airwaves due to ITV's fear of a public backlash.
