    Hi Guys
I was wondering if any of you guys could shed some lite on my problem. I am using kazaa lite to d/loads some music and when i get the file down and open it plays for about 12 Seconds then goes all warped i dont think its my player (Winamp) as i also use winmx (i know i know...) and that music works fine so im gettin pretty angry and don't want to have to take it out on my little furry kitty.....]

Seriously any help would be good

What you are downloading are deliberately corrupted files placed there by the record companies. Kazaa is riddled with these files, which have random sections of white noise in them. If you are trying to download chart music, you will spend a long time looking for MP3s that don't have the noises in them.

Apparantly I read somewhere that generally MP3s with higher sample rates (192Kbps or higher) on Kazaa are less likely to have the white noise bits. I haven't tried this though.

    Yes, I can confirm this.

Better use something like cyberscrub to wipe those w4r3z clean off your machine, otherwise the coppers will recover them of your hard drive and nick you for fraud and shit. 18 months in prison for listening to Britney Spears or Girls Aloud is no joke...

Anyone who does listen to them should face jail time.

    I can also confirm this...

My brother's mate's cousin lives out in howth beside the cop shop. He downloaded some eminem tracks last week & some of them were these "corrupted" files. Because some of them wern't he played them a couple of times trying to figure out what was wrong....

An hour later two cops knocked on the door & siezed his PC. He's now being fined by IRMA - €10 for every MP3 he had on his system...

He's rightly screwed as he had over 1000 plus some dodgy britney nude pics & some W4r3Z stuff... his da is going mad!!!

My contact in a certain "squad" informs me that they are clamping down on illegal mp3 & warez downloads. The real reason behind this is so that they can check all the computers for child pornography, thus killing two birds with one stone. That is why they are making illegal downloads a priority.

Also, this is unconfirmd, but apparently the "white noise" in the mp3s triggers a security response in an undocumented Microsoft Windows component, which will then send the details of your computer (computer ID, IP address, default "name" for installing porgrams etc) to a central Microsoft security node, which then alerts the relevant authority, possibilty via an Interpol network interface run by the FBI.

If you are not connected to the Internet at the time, the information will be stored in an protected part of your systems pagefile, which waits until you reconnect to the internet before sending the details.

At the moment this feature is not a part of Linux or Apple Mac based systems, but this could change in the future (at least for the Macs anyway).

I presume you mean €10 for every MP3 on his system that he was unable to prove he legitimately owned.

By the way, where can one obtain a copy of kazaa lite from?

There seem to be a lot of different versions of it floating around so if someone could recommend a good one I'd appreciate it...

Exactly dude !!! He only had a couple of his own albums on there.... The rest of them were all mp3z he downloaded.... He's seriously screwed... He was supposed to go to America for the summer but now his da says he has to get a job here & any money he earns has to go towards the fine!!!

He's even got to sell off some of his stuff. Man the minute I heard that I deleted everything I had !!!
