Opposite to Kayos, I'm looking at moving to Co.Wicklow, if I do its because I've been offered a job in LeopardsTown South Dublin. Do you guys have any recommendations for me as to setting up accounts, bringing my mini over, sorting out schools for my little kids?????, wheres the best place to live to commute (thinking of Blessington), want no more than half hour drive.

You'll need to be closer to leopardstown than anywhere in Wicklow to do it in half an hour - unless your working some bizarro night shift. The areas to consider would be north of Bray, it being approx 20mins in reasonable traffic. BTW depending on wher you do end up will hugely effect school availability

Thank you Borzoi, Bray was another area to consider. I'm planning to decide on an area to live, rent a house for at least 6 months, get my kids fixed up with school and find a childminder. I'm guessing due to its close proximity that Bray is hugely expensive and hard to find accommodation?? You don't happen to know when the school year ends in Wicklow do you?

school is ending around now in most schools in ireland

for leopardstown, youre best bet for an under 30 minute drive are stillorgan, blackrock, leopardstown or rathfarnham.

bray is a little bit too far out to be honest.

most schools in ireland have waiting lists, but i would suggest you ask on the after hours or personal issues board about schools etc. give info like areas you are considering and what ages your kids are and what sort of criteria you have (ie. fee paying, non fee paying)

what sort of accounts are you thinking of setting up?
bank accounts may be hard, so i would suggest you call a bank and ask them what you will need prior to moving over.

you will haev sort out the tax and insurance on your car when you move over and if youa re staying over 6 months inthe country you will need to get your car registered and issued with nice irish reg plates.
    oh, that can be expensive.

on the other hand, you said you wanted to commute to leopardstown?
check what p[ublic transport goes through there.
i dont know if there is going to be a luas train going out there (anyone?) which would help, but knowing the irish political system, there wont be one until someone gets a big brown envelope full of money.

hope some of it helps :)

Does the Dart not go through Leopards Town?

Are there any good points with regrds to moving to Ireland from the UK?? everyone seems so negative about it.

i left ireland to go to UK.

only two things i can say that are positive about ireland are the fact that they have a plastic bag tax,and that they have implemented no smoking in pubs.
    fantastic.

otherwise prepare for a drop in the quality and standard of living.

Bray would be cheaper than the areas of Blackrock, Stillorgan etc as outlined by WWM - a lot cheaper. Those are some of the prime real estate in South county Dublin.

Sandyford as an area might be reasonable, but services are poor - particularly school availability as there's been massive new house building, without corresponding facility building (ie schools). Some of the towns in Wicklow migh be similar, I couldn't say for sure, you'd really need to get going on this and check it thoroughly.

As for the school year - it's fairly standard here. All start 1st to 3rd of September. Secondary schools finish up the end of May, beginning June - except for students doing state exams. Primary schools finish up end of June.

best of luck with the move though!:D
