was thinking of getting on of these some time in the future.

    just a few questions.

1, does any1 have one, if yes, what's your opinon?
2, how do you transfer files from your computer to the 80gig HDD?
3, can u store movies on the hard drive from dvd's so there's no need for the disc's?
4, final question sorry :P , but where is the best place to buy these i see elara has it but i wanna check everywhere before i make this purchase.

    cheers

Yeah i have the DP-450 version without the hdd,it's fantastic it plays everthing we throw at it, tiz great for putting a few films on dvd-r then selecting the film from the kiss menu. That version with the hdd has a ethernet port which you connect to ur pc.Or you can copy the files from the dvd to the hdd.Elara are selling them for a competitive price, but if you have a dvd burner in ur pc id go with the cheaper model with no hdd and just burn the movies.

so it just connects through a network card and then can be seen as another computer on a network.

    Well check this,

Its Ethernet capabilities enables the KiSS DP-508 to read Audio/Video/Pictures files that are currently on a PC with KiSS PC-Link Software, But, the main new feature of this player resides in the addition of an 80 GB Hard Disk, enabling the user, to store Audio/Video/Picture files, These can be easily downloaded from a CD or from a PC on the DVD Player

    From ( http://www.3dlogistics.ie/kissprod/dp508dvd.htm )

    Good Luck,

this is a good question cos i'd do that rather than buying the dvd player with 80gig drive and fit my own drive in.

combatcow where did you buy your DP-450 ? elara don't seem to stock them

Tbh,i don know if you can replace the drive in the player.....maybe if you put the new drive in then installed some firmware from a cd image.....i dunno tho just speculating myself. But sorry for the confusion, the DP-1000 is the same as the DP-450 from elara two names for the same thing  but it's E196 from them atm, a good price.

hmm i'll see what the funds are like at the end of summer that 80gig drive seems tempting....

if i have the money i'll get it but if not i'll buy the DP-1000.

one final question is it region free? i know there is prob a firmware update for it but just wondering does it come region free already?

Hey Cr3m0 , one thing to think about when considering the 80gb hard disk version is that DVD's take up 4-10gb of hard disk space.

Its perfect for loading on alot of DivX's etc but not so for DVD's. Nice the way you can have 100 films but you have to rip and encode them first which is the painfull part.........

You could always buy an XBOX, chip it and stick whatever size of hard drive you want in there. It will do everything the kiss will do - play dvds, divx, xvid, mpeg, and connect to a network. Plus you can play games on it...:D

How much does the 508 cost anyway?

    495 euros

I bought the 1500 model myself, which comes with an Ethernet port and WiFi, and I just stream content from the PC to the DVD player. Works very well - TBH, I can't see what benefit the HDD offers over this (unless your PC isn't on 24x7, of course)

the 1500 is also smaller and cheaper (€300 delivered from pixmania.com)

Either way though, I'd echo CombatCow's comments about the Kiss stuff in general - its really well designed and much nicer to use than my old Pioneer DVD player.

Regarding the region of the player, it was locked but dvd-r help has a simple guide to unlock it.The kiss website has regular firmware releases aswell for the player.
