    Hey..

ill prolly be getting a job in a bar soon and was wondering if anyone can give me some info of what i might expect?...

im a bit anxious about it because i cant stand dealing with money(bad experiences)

my mate told me that they dont expect you to go behind the bar straight away..i.e...you work as a lounge boy for a few months first? (just collecting money/serving drinks)

its getting late in regards getting a job for the summer so i might have no choice but to work in the pub.,...ive worked in loads of other places but never a pub...the place i dread the most....

any help would be appreciated :)

I worked in a bar for over 8 years, its not as tough as you might think, just takes a bit of training to get used to all the different drinks and the till.

I started off at 13 sorting bottles and was managing the bar at 21 before I left to start a career in IT. The experience of working in a bar is great for confidence building and maturing. Don't worry about dealing with the money the till will do all the calulations for you.

    Need more info just ask

Im the exact same.. 8 years in barwork and left to go into IT..

Its all about self confidence, money isnt really an issue as you only will be handling
€50 notes max unless its a big round.. then with tills these days, they do everything
for you including calculating the change..

With the drink, its just getting to know whats were and different cocktails if required. You dont even notice standing around all day if the pub is busy and time
    will fly..

If you have no bar experience, you will more than likely be out on the floor getting
used to the place and then learn the basics like pulling pints, tills and stuff. There
wil more than likely be a bar manager there who will look after money etc so dont be
worrying about that side of things.

Just take your time and learn as you go.. dont be afraid to ask questions and im sure
the more established staff there have dealt with plenty of newbies so it wont be
    something that bothers them...

Believe me its all about self confidence, if u have that then ur sorted.. :)

    thanx lads...

one more thing...newbies..do they tend to be just lounge boys for a while first?....not directly pulling pints etc?

depends on that particular pub.. most tend to have floor staff collecing bottles and
glass etc.. some have staff that do table service and then the usual bar staff..

Id say you will probably be starting on the floor collecting glasses and bottles,
stocking shelves, checking the toliets etc..

Its a foot in the door and then you can start working your way up..

I wouldnt complain, if he was that busy it bodes well for you as he definitely needs
the staff and nothing better than being thrown in at the deep end to learn... :)

Best of luck with it and let us know how you get on.
