In today's Irish Times, Anthony Garvey writes An Irishman's Diary with an article on the Psion Organiser which debuted 20 years ago in 1984 with the arrival of the Psion Organiser I, the world's first volume-produced handheld computer.

There is a more in-depth article that appeared in Palmtop magazine in 1998 'The History of Psion 1980 - 1997) which is available online (update: site is unavailable at present but you can Google Cache it)

This is the first version model, the Psion Organiser I:

The Psion Organiser II debuted 1986, my first handheld experence was when I got the CM model after it was released - it's still works today - although I find its distant young relative the P900 a bit more practical these days ;) - here they are side by side

an interesting snap shot of 20 years of handheld technology from the early days up to what is available now. Psion had a big influence on the market right up to the current Symbian OS in which they still had a stake until February when they announced they would be selling it
