Is anyone else here reading MBleh! or Freakshow? Both are really cool Irish-made comics, well worth checking out if you see them. Mbleh! is more weird humour, Freakshow is a drama/action comic. Mbleh was being carried by my local store, but I only found Freakshow in Galway's Sub City. Haven't seen another issue of MBleh in a good while now and the website hasn't updated either...

Anybody know any more about these or other Irish-made comics?

There's a shopping centre in town, it's in there. The shopping centre just off Eyre Square - can't remember the name because I'm crap. It's on the ground floor, just down the escalators from where Gamestop is on the top floor.

    ...

"Sub City - Eyre Square Centre (near the escalators across from Kaytoo).
Okay, it's a comic book shop, but still, just because you're abroad doesn't mean you can't keep up with The Flash, The Crow, or even Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Stocks Pokemon, Star Wars and Star Trek (as if I need to say it), as well as Transmetropolitan, Preacher, and all the other underground books, like Johnny The Homicidal Maniac, that we all know and love."

That's the first description/address I found with Google, should do the trick though.

i'd love to be able to publish my own stuff, but it's difficult with no money and nowhere to start. i'd say i'd find it hard to get stuff published by a big company because my comics (i write mainly sci-fi action and get a mate to draw, i'm worthless at drawing) have too much in them (philosophy, etc.).

    where there's a will there's a way.
    god loves a tryer

    etc.

You could always try submitting to something that's already being published. You can try emailing bob AT clamnuts.com if you want to send something in for Mbleh! or robatomicdiner AT eircom.net if you want to find out about the possibilities of getting something published by the guys putting out "Freak Show" (Note - these are email addresses listed in published issues of the comics, so I'm assuming that it's ok to distribute them like this). Then there's stuff like Albedo One magazine, although they don't publish comics as far as I know - still, they might be able to point you in the right direction. Or, going onto a larger scale, you can try submitting to Metal Hurlant or maybe 2000AD (not so sure about this last one, was never really into Dredd et al, so I don't know how much leeway they give for new writers). More info can probably be had at the Lost Carpark site, although I haven't looked at it in a while. Still seems to be active though.

And hell, if all else fails, you can always buy a scanner, sign up for a keenspace account (free) and put your stuff on the web. You never know where that might get you.

There's another Irish comic out there called "Havoc 21" by Wolfman Productions.

I'm actually one of the comic book artists on this and the script I'm illustrating will be on either issue 4 or 5.

They're available in Dublin and Cork as far as I know but it's still knew to the market.

Here's a link if anyone is interested:

Picked up issue 1 of this in other realms the other day - I'm impressed. I mean, it's not like it'll compare straight away to what you'd get in 2000AD but it's a good start at an Irish version of it, and the production values are good....looking forward to the next one.

When I grow up, I'm going to be Jack Dixon. Or Jack Bauer, haven't decided. But Freakshow is great.

I collect Freakshow too. I loved The Director (the Russian Villain). I had my brother paint me the cover featuring him. I've actually leant it to Rob (the writer). You can see it in Sub City.

I think Rob is working on new stuff too.

Also, there's an Irish comic expo coming up if you want to see what's going on in Irish comics at the moment! Details are in Sub City Dublin. If anyone wants them (and can't get to Sub City), I can find them out and post them on here.

I'm New to all this comic stuff, it never was a part of my childhood, unless you count the Buster! I went into a comic shop the other day with a comic nerd friend (!) and a comic caught my eye "Ghost of a Doubt" has anyone else heard of this, what do you think. I also picked up "snakepit" very funny! Is this the kind of stuff you guys are interested in or am I in the wrong board!

Was checking boards.ie after time away and was happy to find news and updates. Just read Pádraig Ó Méalóid article linked in another tread. Being curious about the mentioned works I checked with google and was surprised by what I found.
    When I typed in:
    Streets of Dublin I got
    http://www.bugpowder.com/trs2/05/10/15/streets_of_dublin.html
    Havoc 21
    http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/smallpress/113204153478673.htm
Haven't found anything on the others yet!

He wrote "While I’m at it, I should also mention that most of the people involved are at the very least acquaintances, if not friends, and some of my opinions may be affected by this."
I think you can tell who are acquaintances, if not friends of his by what he promotes and what he slates!
Wasn't Mbleh around before Freakshow?! Can anyone tell me?
