Multiroom Viewing

    Hello,

    Recently an extension was added to our house. There was no tv cable wired into it. What we want to do, is;

    1. Extend the sky cable into that new room which is adjacent to the current tv room, as to be able to watch sky also on that TV... I understand this can be done once both tv's watch the same channel.
    2. Be able to use the sky remote in that room also
    3. Also extend the ntl cable into that room, so as to allow one tv to watch sky, while other watches ntl...

    Is this all possible?
Who do I get to do it?
What kinda price range are we talking?

If you are feeding the NTL cable into the RF in on the Sky box then all you have to do is run one cable from the RF2 output on the box to the extension. You will have all of the NTL channels as well as whatever sky channel the digibox is on.

You will need to also get a TV link to enable you to change sky channels from the extension. You can get one here or many other places too.

I feed the ntl into the tv direct, and the sky is fed into the tv via the scart slot...

I feel this will be your biggest problem. When building/extending your are well advised to chase all cabling before your walls are plastered. As you stand at the moment you have 2 options if you want to run cable into the extension:

Run cable under carpet to the 2nd tv.

Rechase the wire - this is a big job. Basically you'll have to gauge a track out of the wall for the wire to run and replaster that section of the wall.

Another alternative, and I think your best option, is to invest in a video/remote sender. This will beam the channels around the house and you just tune the TV into the frequency transmitted. I rekon you could expect to pay approx 100 Euro in Argos for one but you'll need to buy a reciever for eevery extra tv you want to use.

    I think you're right daveg...

The undercarpet routine would be a mess as it would have to nagigate around a fireplace and across a wooden floor...
I'll know the next time to wire before to save later on...

My only problem is that I suspect this video/remote sender will work fine for the digi channels but it won't work for ntl, is this correct?

You could connect the digisender to a VCR scart socket, and then use the Video's RF tuner and modulator to beam NTL channels around the house. Works fine until somebody wants to watch a video...

What if you split the cable that goes into your TV (beit video-out or digibox out)? That'll give you the same input (video, NTL, Sky) your getting to your TV.

Yes you could, daveg, and that would be the cheapest option, but you cannot send RF signals through a videosender and it was specifically stated that to lay any RF co-ax cable from the digibox to the extension is inconvenient.

You cannot send RF signals through a videosender? Is it scart input only?

'Fraid so!!! If you were to relay RF signals, you would be breaking the law. It is illegal to relay, in any way, any cable, MMDS or satellite companies signal. You'd have ntl and ComReg after you pretty pronto if you bought a transmitter!
