hey all, nead a dig out here.
just got myself a nice new pc, self built, done it many times before with no problem, but not this time.
when starting the new system with my old hdd, it got as far as loading mup.sys and restarts, tryed reformatting, same problem after install, ruled out hdd issues by useing 2 other hdds with clean installs.
anyone ran up against this before?
hope to here back soon, so wanting to play with this amd 64 chip lol

    chears!

Mup sys means it could be any number of possibilities.

Will it boot in safe mode?

Also try disabling any inbuilt devices ont he motherboard.

Today my mup.sys crash was caused by pushing the CPU above the 2.5ghz mark had to lower it get it running ,buts its hardware based somfin in your system not installed properly.

it wont boot into safe mode, thats how i know its mup.sys that its crashing on.
ive tryed removeing all pci cards, swaping the agp card, no effect.
in no way over clocking at all, its a 3.2Ghz 64bit running normal speed.
got it working once, by removing the sound card, but it got the nt admin is shutting down ur pc in 60sec, like sasser, but the modem drivers arnt even installed....

on restart it crashed out at mup.sys again

By any chance are you trying to run it at 3.2ghz instead of 2.2 :D

    3.2Ghz 64bit

Are you sure, is it a AMD 64 or intel P4?

Would help if you tell us the specs of your rig.

Sorry I have been very vague,
    Amd 64bit 3.2 GHz
    Abit kv8 max 3
    Mushkin 512Mb 3200 ddr
    Sapphre Atlantis 128 pro
    Maxtor 160 GB 7200/ 250 GB
    Thermaltake xaser3 1000A
    Zalman 400W psu

    thats the guts anyway

this is realy bugging me, sometimes it dose get into windows but gets critical errors and restarts
    :dunno:

Like they said above, I hope you aren't running that AMD 64 at 3.2 GHz, 3200 does not equal 3.2 GHz. The clock speed of the AMD 64 3200 is 2.0GHz.

im running it at default 2.2 i beleve
all the overclocking stuff in the bois is disabled

so i think that rules that out

could it be the motherboard? its onboard temp gauge its reading nuts
on start up its reading the temp as 75 deg, but the temp probe reads 33 deg.
and the heatsink is only silghtly warm to the touch

He probably has the A64 3400+. Thats why its running 2.2Ghz at default.

Maybe you should reseat the heatsink, slightly warm could mean it's not transferring enough heat from the chip.

i def bought the 3.2, and im no newbie to building machines.
ive tryed 2 difrent heat sinks, amds own and a thermaltake copper heat sink.(cant rember its name)
tryed vareing amounts of thermal paste, and no i havent put to much on. i have discovered there a problem with some of the xv8 max 3 boards reading mad temps and there is a bios flash to fix it, so that gets rid of the temp prob.
im still stumped about the processor. its defently detecting it as a amd a64 3.2Ghz , but a clock speed of 2.2 ish. anyone know if theres a way to set the clock speed/bus speed and multiplyers on that board?

What do you mean by A64 3.2Hgz? Do you mean A64 3200+? The new A64 3200+ default speed is 2.2Ghz at 512k cache. Are you sure your settings in the bios are correct?

yeah i mean the 3200 pentium equllivant 3.2Ghz

the bios is where i seam to be pointing, but there is only 2 options, the default and manual, its set to default.
what should the settings be for that chip? maybe setting it manually will fix it
