    From the Irish Independent:
    A UNIONIST politician was kicked off a Northern policing board for taunting a gay colleague.

    Arthur Templeton was told he must quit the authority in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim. Members of the governing body insisted his role had become untenable.

    A statement said the board concluded he was unfit to discharge the functions as a member of a District Policing Partnership.

    Mr Templeton was convicted earlier of harassing homosexual council candidate John Blair. He was fined £250 for a series of incidents.

    NI Policing Board chairman Prof Desmond Rea said it was essential that the rights of all were protected.
