VCR capture for VCD

    ‘lo all.
I’m transferring some old VCR recordings to VCD and I have a question about the file sizes (new to this encoding malarkey), currently I’m returning 238MB per file, and I thought this was a little big, given the following settings:

VCR: 5 year old Phillips VCR (mono)
Capture hardware: Pinnacle stereo TV tuner card.
Capture mode: Composite (SVHS gives black and white picture).
    Compression: MPEG1
    Bit rate: 1.15Mbit/s
    Size: 352x288

Each clip is exactly 22mins long, and there are 3 clips in total – and I was hoping to fit them on 1 700Mb CD.
There doesn’t seem to be an option in the pinnacle software to reduce the sound quality capture, apart from mono. Quality isn’t really an issue – just as long as they are watch-able.

Would I be able to maybe reduce the bit rate of the audio (~22 or ~32KHz) or would this fall out of the requirements for VCD, I’m using nero to burn the VCD.
I can use premiere, so if you have any tips as to what I may be able to do, they would be most welcome.
    Cheers

You could try editing the clips, cutting out least important parts to make it fit, looks like 2 mins. a clip`d do. O r you reduce the bitrate but the quality would suffer. I think the best bet would be to capture to Mpeg2 and burn to a DVd. Mpeg 1 is poor enough from a good source never mind from a vcr!.

this sounds right for vcd, about 10mb a min ne less than this and quality is rubbish, and if its not standard complient may not play on all players

Using a stanard VCD template you'll get 74min of video on a 650mb cd and 80min on a 700mb cd.
    Same as an audio cd.

You'll have no problem putting the 3 clips on one cd.

    Edit:typo
