Flat panel monitors and gaming?

    I just got a new Dell with a 19" LCD flat panel monitor - now it looks great for browsing, movies etc. but in FPS games etc. there's a noticeable amount of 'smearing' when moving, particularly when scrolling horizontally.

    It's at 1280 x 1024 resolution, 60hz, is there any way to alleviate this problem or is it just a function of being LCD - if so I'll probably get onto Dell and try and get it switched for a CRT - anyone have any experience of whether or not they'll do that?

    I'm not contacting them until next week anyway as the PC needs to be updated, drivers etc. as Dell are still shipping them with year-old drivers etc.
