    Hi
Just want to say that I am in the market for a digital camera, (Canon or Nikon), and have browsed through so many sites for prices and general info.

Then I came across the Argos catalogue, and seen the whopper prices for cameras???

I know most photographers already know, so it's for noobs like myself :)

    Just as an example,

    Nikon Coolpix 5400:

    Cam-ireland, 635 Euros
    Argos, 980 Euros

    Thats an EXTRA 345 Euros!!!!

    For the love of God.

Its the same with the rest of the range, the Sony stuff is much dearer aswell, the problem is the catalogue was printed months ago, and since then everywhere else has reduced their prices, but theres not a lot argos can do cos they have thousands of catalogues printed. Kind of works against them sometimes.

I think you'll find when you check the price on the stock checker devices in the argos stores that the price will have been reduced - don't just go by the catalogue. However even allowing for that Argos are very expensive but then so are all the other high street camera shops in Ireland.

    I got my Canon A70 for €260.
    Its €499 in Argos.

Be careful of the lower range digicams as well- I got one that seemed to have really good specs at a low low price, but it was crap and I had ta fork out an extra €100 for a better one!

Maybe you should be more specific bout the camera and price range, just to help others.

I am looking into buying the Canon powershot S1 IS,
reviews are very good, it has a stabiliser for video which is nice, and ultrazoom and looks great!!

Don't know if this in price range you talking about, around 500 yoyo's???

Also I don't remember EVER buying goods in Argos at prices lower to catalogue, I'd say they just, 'Take the money and run'.

Sorry, it was a Polaroid..never knew why the hell I bothered with it...it was supposedly a 2 megapixel cam, but when you loaded the pics they were horribly out of focus, even if they seemed in focus when you took them. Also the screen display was pure filth as well. As far as I can remember, I think it was around €150-€200
