Warning Spanish Lottery Scam doing the rounds again

Got a letter today claiming I had won €385,000 on the spanish lottery 'El Gordo'. All I've got to do is give them my bank details :D
Its a variation on the usual Nigerian 419 email scam.

Letter is fairly convincing (depending how cynical you are), using scanned logo's from the official site.

Letter is full of spelling mistakes and terrible grammar, and appears to have been printed on a cheap inkjet. My Address was both partial and incorrect.

Just warn your more vunerable rellys before their life savings are vacuumed out of their accounts.

    Also mentioned on boards here

    And the interweb here

Ah in fairness, anyone who falls for it, deserves it. As if the whole world is automatically entered into the Spanish lottery. People this stupid deserve to loose their money. They must think the world revolves around them.

Out of interest, was the return address to Spain or ireland? im guessing Spain?

Really? So gullible old grannies whose only fault is not being cynical enough deserve it do they? These scams are designed to take advantage of the weak, desperate and vunerable. Saying that everyone who falls for this deserves it is a bit strong imo.

Sent from and return address in madrid.

True.. i was thinking of that in a more sort of i dunno... people who lose alot of money to these guys dont deserve to have much money anyway... (i was actually thinking of that simpson's frank grimes episode tbh).

I heard of an English doctor who lost a load of money to the 419 scammers.. repeatatly.

But yeah they're praying on old people, hadn't thought of that. I didnt think many old people read boards tbh, so i was wondering why u posted the warning :)

I think the part about warning your vulnerable relatives gives it away?

Got me there, i didnt pick up "rellies" in the 1st scan, but its a bit of a paradox isn't it- you're going to hear about it pretty soon if they think they won, then you'd immediately pick it up as a scam then advise them. So why bother?

Incidently i got something similar from India once, thew it away immediately. But the greedier you are the more likely you'd fall for it, i think, If my sister got something like that she'd just about fall for it i'd say.

You'd think theyd at least go to the bother of getting a properly worded letter done up, I'm sure they could dig up an english speaker somewhere, at least in the old days when someone tried to con you they put a bit of effort in, these guys seem to spend about 15 secs doing it.Does this mean people are getting more gullibe if less effort is required to relieve them of their money? just a thought.

I reckon we should get a database of all the addresses from different 419 type scans and sign them all up to each other:D
