Irish Rail Dublin -> Belfast - reliable?

    Hi folks

I've to get a train to Belfast to catch a flight and I don't want to hang around at the airport for longer than I have to.

I see from www.irishrail.ie that the train from Dublin is supposed to take two hours and five minutes. Can anyone tell me if this is a true figure - is the service reliable?

Also, if anyone knows, how long does it take to get from Belfast Central train station to the airport? Is it a bus or a train?

Right, I've taken the train twice in the ;ast two or three weeks.. There were delays of 20 or 30 minutes the second time so I wouldn't make the connection too tight...

Belfast Central to the airport is a short taxi journey, 10 minutes maybe..

in my experience generally it takes longer than 2hrs5min..
    Generally around 2hrs 20mins..

Do you know what airport your going from ?
Belfast international aiport (BFS) is a good 45mins bus journey from the city,
you can get the bus from Gt Victoria St station
    (and probably central train station)
Belfast city airport on the other hand is close to central station - 10mins..

The last time I took the enterprise (to newry), when I was coming back I was waiting an hour and a half for the train because of the 'ten minute delay'.

Others were waiting longer, and no attempt was made to put a courtesy bus on.
Generally if one train breaks down/runs late, the next few will be late too, so check translink.co.uk before you leave the house (irishrail.ie is crap and never updated) as they always have up to date train info.

    The info is much appreciated.

I didn't know Belfast has two airports. I'm flying from the International one so I guess I'll have to plan for possible train delays of 30mins and another 45mins to get to the airport.

In fact I may even chuck the whole idea and pay extra to fly Aer Lingus from Dublin.

    Thanks again.

I took the train to Belfast this past weekend and there was a delay of 20 minutes because there was a fatality on the line with the train coming back from Belfast.

Basically the train rides back and forth so if there is a delay at any point during the day, all the rest of the trains are backed up.

I'm not sure if there was a bus between Central Train station and International but there is a bus for sure from Gt. Victoria Station, which isn't too far from Central Train but you should count on the bus taking at least 45 minutes to get to International.

That said, it's a small airport so once you're there, you can get in quickly.
