Ok a firend called me last night and said she couldn't open IE at all.

I went over and had a look and it wasn't lauching IE at all, XP wont allow to uninstall it and she has the latest version.

I resintalled XP but problem still excists.

Anyone got any idea apart from formatting and starting from scratch???

try downloading mozilla firefox i think you could install that and have it basically replace IE.

Yeah I know it's frowned upon to suggest IE problems be solved by installing mozilla... but it really is the least painful option.
Especially if you've already reinstalled the entire OS.

Although, a question springs to mind... did you reformat the drive before you reinstalled XP?
Seems a fair bit dodgy for it to still not work after a clean reinstall.

Yea I did say that but they want IE, their not techy at all.

I saw this http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1559298,00.asp which maybe might allow me to re-install it.

I forgot to say that when I tried to re-install it it said another install hadn't completed and to reboot the pc, but I still got after rebooting and again after re-installing xp

    edit/

I didn't format it before I reinstalled, I guess I'l have to back up their files and format do if nothing else will solve it.

    /edit

you should of tried it in safe mode to see if it popps up any errors. usually a virus or spyware

Open Windows Explorer .From there go to C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\Uninstall Information. Right click on the Uninstall Information
folder and select Properties. Uncheck the Hidden box and then click OK
or Apply. A confirmation screen will come up. Select the Apply changes to
this folder, subfolders and files button. This will unhide all of the files
in the Uninstall Information folder. You then need to move (not delete)
all of these files to another folder that is empty. Any one will do or make
a new temporary folder. It doesn't really matter just as long as the
Uninstall Information folder is empty. Reboot your computer. After
rebooting double check and make sure that the Uninstall Information
folder is empty. You should then be able to install all of the troublesome
components (hopefully). If everything goes well you can then move all
of those files that you moved previously back into the Uninstall
    Information

    Good luck

    • Try control panel, add-remove programs-Internet explorer- remove. It will give you the option to to remove or repair. select repair.

    • Do you have a pop-up blocker? If so, try disabling it.

If neither of these work have a look at the following list of suggested solutions (you have to scroll down about two pages to see the suggestions and links)..

Bodan and fragile, thanks for the help, got it going last night, seems there was some web search program installed that was causing the problem. Looks good for the moment anyway.:)
