Qualifying for 1Mb ADSL

I have the 512k i-stream service at the mo, which is RADSL. That doesn't automatically mean I can get 1Mb/s or the 2Mb/s services, right? Does the line checker database have different grades of acceptance, or how does Eircom know if I qualify for one and not the other?

In terms of talking to Eircom or reseller, it doesn't really help that the line checker shows my line as not being capable of having any form of ADSL.

Correct. RADSL ( Rate Adaptive) has speeds from 256k to 512k i believe depending on line quality, distance etc while adsl is 512k / 1mb etc.

I dont know how it is with Eircom but with EsatBT they didnt even check a database. They just asked me approx what distance iwas from my exchange (im quite near) and they said nps, would you like to order?

I failed the RADSL test btw which more more 'accepting' of line problems than ADSL yet i could get ADSL. Weird imo but hey i dont care now ;)

RADSL stretches to about 5.5 km from the exchange. ADSL stretches to about 3km.

It can go faster than 512k its just limited to that for reasons unknown.
