watch the space for new entrants / unbundlers, not dependant on eircom so more likely to offer better speeds / contention / pings.

I've been watching that space for years and have so far been greeted with ineptitude from the likes of NTL and EsatBT. Perhaps the wireless folks will pull their thumbs out and deliver a decent competing service? Competition is the only thing that will get Eircom to see beyond line rental increases.

maybe sometime in the next 1 to 3 years i reckon, at the moment it wud be a waste of time anyway if we got 1mb lines because with the already small caps the 1mb line wud eat the caps in half the time making it seem worse than it is now. A faster line wud be nice but im more concerned about the caps which need to be increased.

I know the feeling, but Steve's actually right, there are several companies dipping their toes into the water at the moment to get a feel for things. There'll be at least two entrants to the business market very, very shortly, and although I'm speculating on the residential side, I'm pretty confident that we'll see at least one new player in this area, and more likely two. Unfortunately I think more work needs to be done on the unbundling side before we'll see large scale rollouts though.

All that being said, I don't think we'll see faster speeds until well into next year, if not late next year / early the year after. Unless a major player like Tesco jumps into the market that is, which isn't beyond the bounds of reality.

Yes, 512 is really beginning to feel like 56k these days. I would welcome some sort of speed increase.
