    I was thinking of getting broadband and seem to have only four viable options due to my location:

    1) IOL Broadband
    2) Chorus Cablenet Broadband
    3) UTV Clicksilver (have to change phone provider so wouldn't really suit me)
    4) Eircom (though they seem to be expensive for limited 4gb)

    Cablenet Broadband looks the best on paper, as it has no download limit as well as cheap installation and good speeds.
    Does anyone use Cablenet Broadband and if so how do they rate them?

    ==================================================
    Cablenet Broadband Info
    Up to 512k Downstream
    128k upstream
    Up to 10 times faster than 56k dialup
    Flat Rate Internet Access - no additional usage charges or download limits
    €50 installation fee (includes equipment / extra CATV outlet)
    €35 per month rental (includes rental of extra outlet)
    ==================================================

    ==================================================
    IOL Broadband Info
    IOL Broadband is €39.00 per month
    Download or upload 8GB per month FREE of charge
    Installation charge - IOL Broadband has a self install charge of €90 for an engineer install charge is €190
    ==================================================

    Thanx for any opinions.

    Just doing sum checkin around on UTV broadband, and while it seems good at only €30 a month, you must change your phone provider to them and thats something i wouldn't like to do.

    yeah thats what i was thinking but wanted to get some info on the quality of it first.

    I'd go with cable if I had the choice. And ditch the whole Eircom lines and all - we use our mobiles for calls anyway.

    But you do get 3 months free with UTV, IOL and Eircom - so it might be worth keeping that in mind.

    Why, I hoesntly can't understand this mentallity, do you like eircom? You do know UTV are cheaper or the same on all calls, if its the duel bill issue that will be resolved shortly.

    A lot of people are turned off utv on this point. It may be cheaper(*),
    but forcing the change of billing on people is only going to make them suspicious that they are getting shafted yet again.

    (*also read some posts from here from some who have compared bills before and after have reported this actually isnt in their case and Eircom was actually cheaper for them, esp those who make all local short calls) - but I dont have utv myself and its was last year when I examined the pricing comparisons then...

    IOL's service is reasonably good, they're also offering 4 months free at the moment as well as a free webcam, so that might swing it for you.

    Their products are limited though 8GB on the lower end and 16GB on the higher end product.

    Also if you take their voice package you get a 15% discount, but you seem to be happy with your voice service at the moment so that probably doesn't appeal to you.

    I'm happy enough with the IOL service, they had some real problems a couple of months ago but seem to have resolved them at this stage

    I do read thread here, In fact I was amoung the first few hundred people in the country to get ADSL. I don't see it as forcing people, its a choice you make with positives and negative, you do what suites you best. UTV have a higher base call charge then Eircom, so yes they are more expensive for local calls that are less then five minutes, but after that they are cheaper per minute. You have to take all this into account when deciding. My phone bill it nothing like what it once was, but I thats my usage habits.
