Hi,

All calls made to 0818 xxx xxx numbers are charged as if they were 'National Rate' calls. This exact charge is outlined in Part 6.7 of http://www.eircom.ie/About/Activities/Sn1_pt6.pdf

A great way to save a lot of money is to take advantage of an eircom loophole offered by an Irish company based in Blackrock, just dial 0818 24 25 26 and then dial almost any international destination, and all for the price of a national call.

I don't work for these guys but I do dial all my international calls using it and I would recommend their service highly.

Best,

R

Surely they charge you more than the price of the national call for this?

It's true - International calls at national rates, They are one of the few 'specialised' (they don't just resell WorldCom or Esat) telecoms operators that have multiple interconnects nationally and internationally. Their web site is http://www.budgettelecom.ie . ( and are a regulated company http://www.comreg.ie/erou/search.asp?search=&O=&D=&DoSearch=yes&Company=Budget+Telecommunications+Ltd.&NetworkType=&ServiceType=&submit=Search ) I don't think they make much margin on it, and I know it's not their core business, but the guys who run the company are young and fairly anti-establishment and set the service up more for showing how expensive eircom and esat and the others are - when they can run the service, at such cheap prices and still make a little bit of money on it.

Yes, thats right although the UK country code is 44

So to dial, lets say www.boards.co.uk in the UK:

1. Dial 0818 24 25 26 (National Call)
2. Once answered, dial 0044 1702 582245 and leave a message for www.boards.co.uk

3. Or you could dial, www.boards.com in the US, 00 1 213 213-6100 (Don't dial this number if you are under 18)

and you are speaking to the UK or US for the price of a national call.

There is a website in the UK (which I cannot for the life of me remember the name of) which actually lists the ordinary numbers to which the national rate calls are directed.

Say you were ringing Sky within the UK on 08702 40 40 40, it can find the local number in Scotland, which you can diall through to directly, and connect to the same callcentre as the 08702 number points to.

I think an Irish version of this would be useful, with the increased use of these 0818 numbers here.

EDIT The site is http://www.saynoto0870.com/

Hi,

Sorry for reviving it but I'm now fighting Eircom's injustice so trying to find as much wrong with them as possible

I checked all my bills and I can't seem to understand how the call cost is calculated for 0818 calls.

This is what I have in the pricing section of my bills:
Guide to standard call prices
National calls (including NI), per minute inc.VAT
Daytime 8.60c
Evening 5.18c
Weekend 1.33c
And this is what I have in the itemisation section:
National Call 0818
Evening calls 1 00:14:30 0.6677 (4.6c)
Weekend calls 5 01:02:59 2.9326 (4.6c)
Total of national call 0818 calls 3.6003
The cost seems to be roughly 4.6 cents a minute for both evening and weekend calls which is wrong for both.

I had Eircom Talktime Friends + Broadband Home Plus (Talktime/Broadband Bundle) if that makes any difference.

So who's wrong here - me or Eircom?

Cheers:)
