I got a new ftv card and when I put it in, it says on ITV, Channel4 and Five "call sky to upgrade to this channel" and gives information on what the channel shows.
I thought these channels were free to view?

leave it in for 24-48 hours untill the signal reaches the card or else try through other channels

Ok, thanks. But the channels should def. come, ya?

Where did you get the card?

If the card has been activated in any digibox it should work in any other digibox (although it may take a day or two to come on if it has not been used in a while). If the card has not been activated then it is pretty much useless. It may allow you to watch ITV, Channel 4 and five through the Other Channels menu but I am not certain of that.

from ebay. how do I know if it was activated?
i got 1 there before & it was fine.

Ask the seller if they have used the card to watch ITV, Channel 4 and five. If they have then it has been activated. If not then you may be in trouble.

I presume that it is the new type of card (dark blue with a yellow house outline on it).

Its the new type, it was advertised with Itv Channel4 and Five available, so I presumed they would appear straight away

If the card has not been used for a while it is possible that it will need to be left in the box for 24 or 48 hours in order to receive cetain keys to unlock the channels. This can happen if you don't use your card regularly.

How long did you leave the card in the box for?

Dunno if this helps but when I got my FTV card, 103/4/5 didnt even show up on the EPG until I called and activated it... the fact that they do showe on yours is probably a good sign that they will come in after a while?

Does anyone know if it is possible to tune in Channel 4, itv and 5 through other channels with a card that has not been activated and if so what are the frequencies?

I received a card just before the deadline in January but was unable to get it activated at that time. It is one of the new type cards.

I have an unactivated NDS (blue with yellow house) FTV card. Is this now completely useless or is there anything I can do to salvage it and received ITV, C4, etc?

What comes up on screen when you select one of the channels, say ITV?

As already suggested, cards can become deactivated, and the first thing is always to leave the card in the box for up to 48 hours, perhaps even longer, to see if it will reactivate.

With an UNACTIVATED or indeed DEACTIVATED FTV card the ONLY hope of having them activated is that they are from Free2View and you have all the details of the person who originally ordered the card, and then calling from within the same area code which corresponds to the original postcode to which the card was issued, with caller id enabled. This was not always the case, but recent reports indicate that the callcentre which now deals with reactivating problem cards, insist on this.

In Ireland this is virtually impossible unless you are in contact with the original owner or a contact who supplied you with an address to order the the card in the first place.

A Free2View card is identified by the phone number on the reverse (see sticky at top of page)

If you have an unacitivated UK Sky card, you CANNOT have it activated(unless you want to take out a UK subscription,in which case a new card is issued anyway),it is useless, apart from allowing access to the default EPG on a box which has been married to an Irish Sub card.

If the card is the BBC P2 type (only a few thousand issued but this might be the one you have) there are two stages to the activation process -one to make the thing work and two to allocate the appropriate regions to 101-105

It is possible that your card has only gone through the first stage of the activation process but not the second which means you WILL be able to watch ITV/Channel4/Channel 5 but only via "other channels"

    The frequencies are
    Channel Four 12.168 V 27500 2/3
    Channel Five 12.304 H 27500 2/3
ITV 10.832H 22000 5/6 London Central HTV Westcountry
ITV 10.891H 22000 5/6 Anglia Border Meridian Tyne Tees Yorkshire
ITV 10.906H 22000 5/6 Grampian Scottish Ulster London Granada Channel (Islands) ITV2

If it doesnt work try leaving the card in the box tuned to either Sky News (UK) Channel 4 or "999" for a day or so to see if it activates

You could also try a "Pout" activation to get 101-105 working and regionalised

    Correction on those frequencies
    Channel Four 12.168 V 27500 2/3
    Channel Five 12.304 H 27500 2/3
ITV 10.832H 22000 5/6 London Central HTV Westcountry
ITV 10.891H 22000 5/6 Anglia Border Meridian Tyne Tees Yorkshire
ITV 10.906V 22000 5/6 Grampian Scottish Ulster London Granada Channel (Islands) ITV2

The UTV transponder uses VERTICAL polorisation (not horizontal)
