    Hi

I have NTL and SKY, have both but thinking of leaving NTL as i am only getting 2 extra channels and paying €20 per month. The only reason i have them is the soccer. In that case can anyone answer the following?

Is there any live soccer on ITV next season?
Is it worth my while to keep NTL

The reason i ask this is that i have sky at the moment and i am thinking of getting SKY+ and putting my old digibox upstairs connected to a spare satellite i have so that will sort out most of my problems

    Any ideas/recommendations?

Sky have all football for next season after that there be some on RTE but not ITV.

I dont have NTL havent for a long time ,only thing i miss is have 2 tvs on different programs (which you can do with sky just costs more that a 20 foot cable).

I had both as well but worked out that it was costing me about 20 euro a match for each math that I watched over a season. So cancelled sky and now go around to mates house with 20 euro worth of goodies or go to pub and spend about same in a good athmosphere.
In saying that I have then recently tried to cancel NTL and that has caused me a lot of grief. Them saying that they will charge me up until the time they can get a service engineer out to disconnect me. Looking like 20 working days or about a months rental that they will try to screw me for. If they can't get access when they come out, it could be another month, they say.
So in conclusion, I would get rid of both.

Well, I'll just give you this advice:

If you want UTV and Channel4, stick with NTL! There's no way possible you can get those two channels on Sky!

If not, then get rid of NTL. you clearly aren't that happy with their service.

By the way, get more info on the ICDG threads

Of course there is. It might just cost you, that's all (though it didn't cost me a bean). I have ITV London and Channel 4 on Sky in my compact Limerick flat.

HOW? Did you get a UK sub? Or did you buy an FTV card?

FTV card. Got it the last day the BBC were giving them away for free (which was nice as I ordered it with two days to go).

Leaving that aside though, if one had NTL or Chorus as well as Sky and the only reason for keeping the cable sub was the presence of C4 & ITV, it would make sense to get the two channels on Sky by either method you've mentioned even if the cost (initial in the case of an FTV card, possibly ongoing in the case of a UK sub) was greater than the cost of an Irish Sky sub as it would certainly be less than an extra 20 euros a month. I don't know how much FTV cards are selling for on ebay these days. If it's 100 euros (which I expect), the cost is recouped in five months. Even getting it through some of the irish ripoff merchants charging 200 euros, the cost is recouped in ten months. The only major advantage that cable offers here (apart from the presence of ITV and C4 (which in my mind ain't much of a selling point) is the possibility of multiple outlets. If this isn't an issue it's a no brainer. If it is an issue then the customer (dwayneburke in this case) is keeping on NTL for two reasons rather than one. There's the card swapping thing with an FTV card but that isn't much of an issue.

Besides, you'd also get the immense satisfaction I got two years ago when I told Chorus to go away, take their box and never deal with me again even if they were giving the service for free.:D
